The boys and girls are really enjoying their music sessions with Mr McLean and this week they were introduced to a new song about soup. Everyone got the chance to add a fruit or vegetable to our winter soup and there were lots of strange and funny ingredients added to the recipe! This was great fun and they were all joining in with the singing.
We finished off the session with a game of sleeping bunnies. We can’t wait for Mr McLean to come back next week!
P1 have been busy learning about time and it has been lots of fun!
First, we learned about the different time periods of the day – morning, afternoon, evening and night. Everyone in the class acted out different activities that they do during these times for Miss Gordon.
We also looked at the numbers on a clock and now know that the number 12 means it’s an o’clock time.
We love being challenged so please ask me what the time is on the hour!
Every Monday P1 get the chance to visit the iClass and explore new areas of play. They love getting the opportunity to imagine and create new scenarios in the different areas. Here are some pictures of them having fun!
P1 were very excited to come back to school on Monday but they were very shocked when they discovered that the classroom layout had changed. Here they are exploring some of the new games and activities around our classroom.
P1 have had so much fun learning about germs! After learning how to wash our hands properly, we decided to do another experiment to find out how dirty our hands were before washing.
We used six slices of bread and we had a discussion about where we thought would be dirty around our classroom – the class decided we should rub a slice on our hands (unwashed and washed), on the floor, table and outside. The sixth piece we put straight into the bag and Miss Gordon wore gloves to stop any germs rubbing onto it.
Here are the different groups with their slice of bread in sealed bags.

We will continue to look at these to find out if anything has happened and we will keep you updated with any news!
After our ‘eggsperiment’, we then used toothbrushes to clean laminated teeth which were covered in stains. We thought it was a lot of fun and challenged ourselves to make the teeth super clean.
We also made some mouth models using mini marshmallows for the teeth! It was lots of gooey fun!
Finally, we played the clean teeth hippo game which we thought was really funny!
This week we have been learning all about how to stay healthy and we have focused on the importance of brushing our teeth.
We did a little ‘eggsperiment’ to find out what sugary drinks do to our teeth. On Monday afternoon we placed six eggs in six different drinks – milk, water, coffee, Coke, Vimto and fresh orange juice – and we left them soaking in the drinks overnight. The boys and girls were very excited this morning to find out what had happened! Some thought the eggs might explode!
We took the eggs out of the cups and couldn’t believe our eyes! The children were astonished at the Coke and Vimto ones, they had turned the eggs really dark and were very stained. We spoke about why this might happen and they thought that it might be because of sugar. Exactly!
The sugary drinks stained the eggs, just like they might stain our teeth. We said that it is okay to have these drinks now and again but not every day and to remember it is important to brush our teeth twice a day.
Thursday was Fit Thursday and the boys and girls got the chance to try out some new sports! Here they are doing judo and dance. They all enjoyed Fit Thursday and are already looking forward to the next one!
On Wednesday we visited Menzieshill Library with our buddies and we will continue to do this every third week.
We really enjoy having our buddies with us as we get the chance to have a chat with them and tell them all about our week. When we got to the library our buddies read some books to us before we had to head back to school. We are looking forward to our next visit!
This term in numeracy we are continuing with learning all about numbers to 20, we are now at number 14. We have four numeracy stations that we all get the chance to work at and have lots of fun whilst we are learning!
