P1 – Sense Smelling and Tasting

This week P1 have continued to learn more about our senses and we explored our sense of taste and smell. We smelled vinegar and surprisingly none of the P1s guessed it right. The closest guess was salty water! We also smelled coffee and nearly everyone got that one right. Most of the class said it’s the thing that mum or dad drinks to stay awake!

We then moved onto tasting four different things and we had to describe what we tasted. We guessed the sugar straightaway and described it as sweet. We liked the salty crisps but agreed that we didn’t like that much of it as it isn’t healthy for you and it definitely wouldn’t be nice to taste on its own. The cinnamon taste was funny, some of us really didn’t like it but a few of us said it was their favourite and guessed it correctly as what goes into gingerbread. The last one was dark chocolate nibbles and it had a bitter taste which we quite liked.

We had lots of fun exploring our sense of taste!

P1 – A Little Help from a Big Friend

P1 were very surprised when P6 turned up to their gym slot! Miss Gordon had asked the P6s if they could help the P1s with their lesson focus of fitness – creating an assault course for someone else to complete. The assault course had to have more than 3 elements to it and needed to raise the persons heart rate and increase their body temperature.

The P1s did an amazing job of explaining exactly what they wanted in their assault course to the P6s and making a team plan. Afterwards, each group got the chance to try out each other’s course and vote for their favourite. The winning course one by 100% of the votes!

P1 – Loose Parts Play

This afternoon we had Play in a Pod time and used the loose parts from the container. We had lots of fun building and some of us even dressed up! We were very creative and made lots of different things with the loose parts, we are looking forward to the next time!

P1 – Helping the Community

P1 have been thinking about their role in our school/world and the simple things we can do to help the planet. We brainstormed some different ideas and decided that there is one very simple thing we can do to help the world during our daily mile, Litter picking. P1 decided that it is very easy to pick up any litter left in our playground when we are doing our daily workout. Amazing work P1, you have a very proud teacher!

P1 – Sense Hunt

We took advantage of the lovely weather on Tuesday and completed a senses hunt outside. We worked in small groups and each team had their own clipboard. We had to draw pictures of the things we could see, hear, smell and touch outside. We discovered so many new things with our senses!

P1 – Simple Fractions

Primary 1 have been working very hard to learn more about sharing and they have started to explore simple fractions.

We made our own paper pizzas and decorated them with some tasty toppings. After finding a partner, we tried to cut our pizzas in half with a plastic knife so we could share them equally. Unfortunately, the knife didn’t work as the pizzas weren’t real but we enjoyed imagining that they were.

We enjoyed being able to share our pizzas with someone else. Some of the class decided they wanted to share their pizza equally between two more people and we were surprised to discover that we could also make quarters! Amazing work P1!

P1 – Buddy Time

During buddy time last week, the Primary 7’s created obstacle courses for their P1 buddies.  The Primary 1’s worked so hard and had fantastic listening ears on. The buddies did a fantastic job of explaining what to do and how to be safe when using the equipment. Well done Primary 7 and Primary 1!!

P1 – Fitness Challenge

Miss Gordon set P1 a challenge, a very tricky challenge! We had to travel around 6 stations and complete a minute of non-stop exercising at each one. We had to do star jumps, burpees, push ups, sit ups, bench presses and some relay racing! We were exhausted afterwards and could not believe how tired we all were after only 6 minutes of exercising… Afterwards we spoke about the effect that exercising can have on our bodies and that it’s not always the amount that you work out but the quality of the workout. Next we will be trying to figure out the best way to increase your heart rate through fitness. Super job P1!

P1 – Our Senses

Today we started learning about our senses  – we discussed what the five senses are and what parts of our bodies we use.

We then worked around different activities to learn a bit more about some of the senses. We wore blindfolds and tried to write and draw pictures, this was a bit tricky for some of the class. We tried to remember all the items that Miss Gordon had put on a tray, then our partner took one away when we had our eyes closed and we had to try to figure out which one was gone.

We also worked with partners to learn more about our sense of touch and we had to describe an object to our partner and they had to guess what it was.  Next we will learn more about our sense of smell and taste.
