Sophie turned 5 on Friday, here she is with her card from the class. We sang Happy Birthday to her and she told us she was having a party at the weekend, and she is going to tell us all about it today!
Tennis ball juggling!
In gym we have been developing our coordination skills and learning how to make different parts of the body work together. Here we are trying out tennis ball juggling, we had to skip around the hall and whilst doing this pass a tennis ball around our bodies. We finished with some team relay races to further develop this.
Clock fun
We have been learning about time and it has been lots of fun! We made our own clocks with paper plates and used these to show different times of the day – the time we start school, when we have lunch and when we go home. We also went outside and drew clocks on the ground using chalk, we used a big hula hoop to draw around and then we wrote the numbers inside it.
Visiting the Sheltered Housing
Primary One visited the Sheltered Housing Complex this afternoon where they spent time chatting to the men and women who live there and together they coloured in an Advent wreath. The boys and girls really enjoy this experience and they even had time to visit the park on the way home!
Fit Thursday Fun!
Today was Fit Thursday and the boys and girls got the chance to try out some new sports! Here they are doing judo and botcha. They also had a dance session in the morning too! They all enjoyed Fit Thursday and will probably be very tired tonight!
Number Fun
This week we have been continuing with learning all about our numbers. The boys and girls really enjoy using the whiteboard and this is something we do during the lesson before they start working at different stations. This term the children are developing their number awareness through a variety of ways and they look forward to finding out what the stations involve!
ICT
In our ICT time we have been developing our mouse control skills and learning about the different parts of the computer. This week we played some fun games linked to the sounds we have been learning. We had to match initial sounds to pictures and we worked through each level of the game! The boys and girls work very well with their partners when we are using the computers and take it in turns to play the games.
Some of the children said they might like to play the game at home, this is not necessary but if they wish to here is the website: http://www.crickweb.co.uk/Early-Years.html
There are various games they can choose from, this one was the initial sound game and they can start at Level 1 and work through the levels.
Kodaly Fun
The boys and girls are really enjoying their music sessions with Mr McLean and this week they were introduced to a special friend, a little cuddly hedgehog that they had to carefully bounce on this big yellow sheet! This was great fun and they were all joining in with the singing. The hedgehog doesn’t have a name yet and next week we are going to discuss possible names for it and hopefully Mr McLean will choose one of the names when he visits on Tuesday.
Safety Detectives!
We have been learning about staying safe and talking about what safe and unsafe means. We sorted through pictures and discussed whether they were safe or unsafe and we also spoke about safe places to play.
Yesterday we received a surprise box asking us to be Safety Detectives and our special job was to look around our school for all the people that help to keep us safe. The box was full of lots of exciting things that a great Safety Detective needs! There were safety glasses, magnifying glasses, torches and badges for the boys and girls to wear! The children pointed out things that keep us safe like the fire extinguishers on the walls. We had great fun being Safety Detectives!
Bookbug and Buddies
Today we started our literacy and art activities in preparation for the Bookbug event next month. The P6/7 buddies helped us with rhyming words and we used puffy paint to make an ice-cream sundae! We are looking forward to everyone seeing our fantastic work!
