And the winner is…

On Monday we were very excited to find out the winner of the Bookbug Prize, there were lots of cheers when it was announced that Gorilla Loves Vanilla was the winner! That was our class favourite too!

The organisers of the P1 Bookbug  bags have created a survey for parents to complete, it only takes 5-10 minutes and there are prizes on offer. The parent and child that win will receive a bundle of books.

The survey can be found here: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/6QXHRCS   and the deadline is Wednesday 31st January. Good luck!

Snow much fun!

We were very excited when it started snowing on Friday morning, we were having our buddy time and once we had finished our task we went outside to play in the snow with our buddies. We had lots of fun, mainly trying to throw snowballs at Mr McCormack!

Proud of our learning in maths

Primary 1 have been very busy this week and are proud of all their fantastic learning in maths and number work.

We have been continuing with learning all about shapes and today we had lots of fun using toothpicks and marshmallows to make our own shapes! The boys and girls worked really well with this task and were able to build 3d shapes too! Well done!

We have also been working on our number bonds and here we are using our mats to help us write out the sum, we then found all the different ways to make the number. We worked with our learning partners and they checked our sums by counting the cubes to make sure they matched the number card we had picked out, well done!

Our new topic

This term we are learning all about Scotland and using a fantastic book called N is for Nessie, A Scottish Alphabet for Kids to help us. We are going to explore Scotland through the alphabet and yesterday we started with A is for Auld Lang Syne. Here we are singing Auld Lang Syne, some of us said they have heard it before and we found out a little about Robert Burns and why this poem is sung at Hogmanay.

Shape Fun

This term we are learning all about 2D and 3D shapes. We started off this week with exploring the shapes, making sure we knew the names and the features of them. Then we worked in partners to play ‘Guess the Shape’ – the shapes were hidden in a feely bag and we took it in turns to describe a shape in the bag to our partner and they had to work out which shape it was, it was great fun! We also used different shapes to make a shape collage and also used loom bands on peg boards to make different shapes, this was a bit fiddly but good for improving our motor skills!

Numeracy

This week we have been working on addition and consolidating all the fantastic learning we did before the holidays.  Here we are working with our partners, we had to pick an addition card and use pegs to work out the answer, it was lots of fun!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! It was lovely to see the boys and girls today and hear all about their Christmas holidays.  During circle time everyone had a chance to share something about their holiday with the rest of the class and they also enjoyed a chat with their buddies when we did the mile walk.
