Primary 1 V.I.P

In Primary 1 we now have a VIP (very important pupil/s) of the day, the VIP is someone who has been doing their best, being a good example to their classmates, being a good friend and being a hard worker.  After we pick lunch and do the register Mrs Paton tells us who the VIP of the day is.  The VIP can use the special VIP cushion and box throughout the day and they also wear a badge around school throughout the day.  Here are some of our VIPs so far, well done!

Visiting the library

On Friday afternoon we walked down to Menzieshill Library with our buddies, we visit the library every two weeks and we always look forward to our visit.  Our buddies helped us to pick a new book and then we had some time to read them in the library, the books will be coming home on Monday, we can’t wait to read them at home!

Celebrating 100 days of learning!

Today was our 100th day of Primary One! We had lots of fun at the different activities – we had to try and build something using 100 cups, we used cotton buds and paint to make 100 dots on paper and we really enjoyed thinking of what we might look like when we are 100! We used cotton wool to give ourselves white hair and some of the boys gave themselves a moustache.

During literacy time we discussed what things we would like to have 100 of, some of the class thought it would be great to have 100 friends or 100 dogs!

During our gym time this afternoon we challenged ourselves to complete 100 exercises and we managed it! We were very proud of ourselves for doing this.

The challenge we loved the most was the sweetie hunt! Mrs Paton hid 100 sweets all over the classroom and when we found one we had to match it to the number on the 100 square map, we managed to find them all by the end of the day and we will get to take the sweets home tomorrow.

ICT

The boys and girls look forward to their time in the ICT suite every week, they are becoming very confident with using the computers and their mouse control has developed greatly. Yesterday they used a shape pattern game to design different things and some of them wrote their name too!

The children said they might like to use this at home too, the game is called Pattern Shapes and can be found on the Topmarks website:  https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?q=pattern%20shapes

Sticky fingers

We used different materials to make a Scottie dog, an eagle and a Highland cow. These animals are in our Scotland alphabet book and we had lots of fun cutting the material then sticking it on, our hands were covered in glue by the time we had finished!

Karate

Today we had a karate session with Dan from Kanzen Karate. We learned how to do a few simple karate moves and we really enjoyed it.

The children have taken an information leaflet home should they be interested in joining karate classes.
