Proud of our graphs!

We have continued learning all about data and sorting it. We had fun sorting Skittles into different colours, then we counted them and recorded the number.  We used this information to make a bar graph to show how many of each colour we had and we told Mrs Paton which colour we had the most of and which colour we had the least of, well done Primary 1!

Plant Day at the Botanic Gardens

Since we are learning all about plants this term, you might be interested in a Plant Fun Day that the Botanic Gardens are running this Sunday, 20th May.  The event runs from 11am-4pm and it is free entry all day too! They have a wide range of activities on offer from science workshops to birds of prey.  It sounds like a great day out and the weather forecast looks good too!

Our class competition winner!

The whole school took part in a competition to design the Maggie’s Penguin and our class winner was Aoife, here she is with her fantastic winning design, which she put a lot of thought into, well done Aoife! She received a prize from Mrs MacPhail and also a prize from the class prize box, great job Aoife!

Kodaly

We always look forward to our Kodaly sessions with Mr McLean and today he brought his flute to show us. When he played a high note we had to stretch as high as we could and when he played a low note we had to crouch down on the carpet, this was lots of fun and we did really well listening carefully and moving our bodies in the correct way.

Learning about data

We have been learning about data and how to sort and organise lots of different items.  Last week we worked in the classroom and in our groups we had to take items out of the feely bag and decide with our group how we could sort the items.  We sorted them by colour, shape, things that we could/could not write with, if they were toys/not toys, there was lots of sorting taking place!

This week we went outside and in our groups we each collected items which we then sorted, we came up with lots of different ideas! Well done Primary 1!

Learning about our body

This term we are learning all about our senses and our bodies. Today we were learning about the parts of our body and we played a fun game with elastoplasts! Mrs Paton called out a body part and we had to stick the plaster to the correct body part, we then worked in partners and drew around ourselves and labelled some of the body parts.  Great job Primary 1!

Literacy

In our class literacy time this week we are learning more about characters and setting. We are building to create our own story map by the end of  this term and today we listened to a story then drew the characters from the story and where the story took place. We worked very hard today and we are proud of our fantastic work! Next we will begin to learn about the sequence of a story and discuss the beginning, middle and the end.

Loose Parts Play

This afternoon we had buddy time outdoors and used the loose parts from the container. We had lots of fun building and some of us even dressed up! We were very creative and made lots of different things with the loose parts, we are looking forward to the next time!

Sheltered Housing Visit

Yesterday we were very excited to be visiting the Sheltered Housing and spend time with the ladies and men that live there.  We did jigsaws together, read some books and then we sang some songs together. We really enjoy our visits there and look forward to the next time.
