We are happy to be back at nursery, meeting friends old and new. We are learning to explore the environment independently, and we know the ladies are there to help us, and give us reassuring cuddles when we need it.

We are creating golden rules to keep ourselves and each other safe and happy in the nursery environment. We firstly had to learn about the word rule and what it meant. “We have to be nice” and “We can’t run in nursery” were some of the children’s suggestions. We will keep you posted with our completed rules.
Today we held our nursery graduation parties. The children enjoyed games, dancing and party food before receiving their certificates and gifts. We are very proud of the children, and we wish our pre-schoolers lots of luck when they start school. We will continue to follow their progress in primary one.😀
PM Graduation photos to follow.
The afternoon session was quite today as all our preschool friends were visiting there new primary one class. As something different we decided to try out the daily mile walk that the big boys and girls in school do. We started off at the front of the school and then walked all the way around. We enjoyed seeing different parts of school, listening to the birds singing and seeing our little nursery friends in the nursery garden. We were all very tired by the end of the walk but really enjoyed it.
In our outdoor space we provide the children with a variety of materials to enable creative and imaginative play, role play, opportunities to extend language and co-operation and encourage problem solving and teamwork. Today we had a shop, a treehouse and a Spider-man cave.
“Play is essential to the health and wellbeing of children and promotes the development of creativity, imagination, self-confidence, self-efficacy as well as physical, social, cognitive and emotional strength and skills”. (Committee on the Rights of the Child, 2013).
We are making ice-cream cones at the numeracy table. How many scoops do we need to match the numbers? Basil and Lennox are working together to solve this problem.
Aoife is exploring the Numicon shapes at the play-dough table. In Nursery we are learning to use the Numicon shapes to represent numbers from 1 to 10. Each shape has a different colour and represents a number. We are using Numicon at group time and throughout the learning environment so each child becomes familiar with this😀
We had lots of fun in the sun yesterday. After a lovely day playing with our friends we all sat down in a circle and played some ring games. Our favourite game is 5 elephants. We also enjoying singing head, shoulders, knees and toes. We sing it slow, fast and with no words!!! We are getting very good with our movement and singing.
Today we had our 8 pre schoolers and their parents out on the bikes showing them what they have learned. It was lovely to see such proud mummies!
A special well done to Piotr who only started riding his bike today by himself with no stabelisers just in time for Mum coming to see him!!!
In the nursery bubbles are always a favourite with children of all ages. Blowing them, catching them and using language such as high, low, in front, behind, over, under, to and from. The only problem is that they never last long enough. Here are recipes to make your own bubbles at home. Have fun😀
Mix together
18 fl oz water, 2 fl oz washing up liquid and 4 teaspoons sugar.
For longer lasting bubbles
6 fl oz water, 2 fl oz washing up liquid, 2 fl oz glycerine and 1 tablespoon sugar.
Today in the 2’s we went out of the nursery and onto the schools grass for a lovely picnic in the sunshine, we enjoyed yummy pancakes and juicy watermelon.
