WB 22.06.20

Hi Primary 6,

Can you believe this is the last blog post you will see that says ‘Hi primary 6 officially after this week you are all in primary 7.  Can  I please just take this time to say I have had the best year watching each and everyone of you grow and become confident and independent learners. The outstanding change I have seen in many learners this year is down to your own hard work and persistence. Change is always difficult and as we have seen first hand this year sometimes it can throw you out or routine but the change that almost all individuals have made during primary 6 is one I hope that you take with you into and beyond primary 7. I know that whoever you  get in primary 7 will be taking on an amazing class. Do yourself proud primary 6 and be the best you possibly can I know you are all capable of anything if you put your mind to it.

Although this is the final week of school and we would have been closing up and doing lots of fun things. Well even more fun things than we usually do. I have still put lots of work below for you to engage with during the course of the week.

This week for writing I would like you to write a short story about your time in Lock down, I would like you to remember to split your writing into paragraphs and include lots of details about your thoughts and feelings. As we draw ever closer to our seeing what our new normal will be it’s important to reflect on where we have been and what we have learned. So your writing task this week it to write a personal reflective short story about your time in Lock down. Your paragraphs might contain the following details.

Paragraph 1 – Finding out about Lock down, school closing thoughts about staying at home.

Paragraph 2 – Easter holidays, your thoughts about learning from home, being home schooled.

Paragraph 3 – your journey how your feelings may have changed from excited to bored to nervous, what do you miss about your life, and what are your excited about in the future.

Reading

I started to read a new book this week, I haven’t had the opportunity to read much with being so busy, however i started reading one of my favourite films, Twilight. It has not disappointed me . I find myself asking and answering questions continuously. I would like you to continue reading your chosen Novel at home, use the Blooms Taxonomy higher order thinking  to help you create your own questions. You can then answer those question in full using evidence from your books. Here is a picture to help you remember the Blooms Taxonomy levels. 26.02.20

I

This week we have been learning about multiplying 2, 3 and 4 digit numbers by 1 digit. We have built on the strategies we already know for multiplying to help us do these challenging calculations. In outdoor maths we have been measuring things in our playground, Kevin and Ollie were showing the class all the measurements up to a metre. Our resources help us to measure things outside.

In topic we have started looking at deforestation, did you know that deforestation is responsible for 24% of the gases that are having an affect on global warming! We didn’t but do now! We have learnt that an area the size of 20 football pitches is cut down every year in Rainforest so we could have no Rainforest within 100years if this keeps happening.

Week Beginning 10.02.20

In Numeracy we have been learning about factors, common factors, multiples and prime numbers. It has been a challenging week with lots of practical activities. We used resources outside to help us visually understand how to figure out factors of a number and also common factors, some groups even worked out common multiples.

We were learning about limerick’s. We started writing our own poems, this was really challenging for almost all of us but we got there and our poems are awesome – if we do say so ourselves.

In gymnastics we have been working on linking balances and rotation.  We are trying to hold balances for 3-5 seconds and link our movements so that they flow freely just like gymnasts do.
