We love stories!

Tuesday is library day.  Each child has the opportunity to visit Menziehill Library throughout the term. We get wrapped up cosy, and walk down the path to to the new library.
This week on the way the children spotted seagulls, blackbirds and a robin redbreast. (We have been learning about birds in the nursery).  Lesley the librarian is always happy to read a story or two to the children. This week we listened to a story about a snowman. Brrrr!
Visiting the library also encourages the children to learn about their local environment. Some of the children have told us that they visit the library with their parents and grandparents. It is a wonderful, bright, and welcoming space, and we love listening to stories, and looking at the pictures in the books. ⛄

Outdoor Learning/Loose Parts Play

Each day in nursery we spend time exploring our outdoor environment.  In our garden we offer a range of loose parts for our children to explore and utilise in any way they wish. Loose parts are items that can be moved, created, changed, carried, redesigned, taken apart, lined up and put back together again. Loose parts can be tyres, pallets, wood, tubes and guttering to name a few.
Loose parts encourage problem solving skills and abstract thinking, the children are learning to work individually and in groups. They are learning to experiment and discover new ways of doing things.  A pallet is not just a pallet or a tyre is not just a tyre. They are the beginnings of creations such as a boat, a Macdonald’s Drive Thru, and a huge house in the sky to name a few. We love outdoor learning.
