The Snail and The Whale

Hello everyone!
What wonderful weather we have been having in Dundee over the last week or so! I hope you have been enjoying it with your families.
The story “The Snail and the Whale” by Julia Donaldson is a classic. I have attached a video of someone reading the story so you can listen to it at home. Over the next few days I will post some different activities related to the story that you can do with a grown up, if you wish to. I hope you enjoy the story!

Rainbow Hunt 🌈

Good morning guys!

I have another indoor or outdoor play idea for you to have a go at….Rainbow Hunting 🌈

Find an item either inside or outside that matches every colour of the rainbow. You could make it more tricky by setting a timer or by challenging the little ones to find 2 items per colour. This can be played anywhere!

Have fun! 😊

Memory Game 🤔

Good morning everyone!

Here is another fun indoor play idea for you to try… Play the memory game 💭💭💭💭

Gather together items (maybe start with 8) on a tray or table eg pencil, sock, spoon, toy car. Cover them with a towel and see how many you remember. Keep adding items til you can’t remember them all – how many can you get up to?

Have fun! Get those brains working hard!

Kitchen Roll Characters

Good morning everyone!
With all the extra wiping down and cleaning everyone is doing at the moment, you are bound to have plenty kitchen roll tubes ready to be chucked! Well save them from the bin and recycle them into something cool. You can use scissors to cut them up and make slits etc for hair and then you can use pens to decorate, adding googly eyes, glitter or whatever you want. You could even make arms out of cardboard or pipe cleaners. The only limit is your imagination!

Have fun! 😊

Invisible Ink 🕵️‍♀️

Hello everyone! Happy Monday to you all.

Here is a fun activity for you to try at home. Pretend you are a detective or a spy and make invisible ink! ✒️🤫

Mix lemon juice & water and then use a cotton bud to write on white paper and leave to dry. The writing will disappear and reappear when heated up a little or by using a torch. You can write your own secret messages!

Have fun!

Animal HIIT Workout

Hello everyone!
Here is a fun 7 minute high intensity interval training activity for kids (and grown ups too! 👍)  You will need a timer so that each animal ‘move’ lasts 45 seconds and try rest for 15-30 seconds in between each move. You will need some of your favourite music too. You could always try animal/Disney songs to get in the mood.  Here are how you do the moves:

🐻Bear walk – walk with your hands and feet on the floor, hips high – walk left then right

🐸Frog jump – hop hop hop like a frog

🦍Gorilla shuffle – in a low sumo squat, use your hands to balance and shuffle around the room

⭐️ Starfish jumps – jump up and down spreading out your arms and legs (star jumps)

🐆Cheetah run – run run run as fast as you can like the fastest animal in the Sahara

🦀Crab walk – sitting down, place your palms on the floor behind you, lift your hips and crawl on your arms from side to side

🐘Elephant stomp – march around the room, heavy on your feet. Use your arm as a trunk!

Have fun! ☺️

Everybody Worries

https://en.calameo.com/read/000777721945cfe5bb9cc?authid=Xu9pcOzU3TQx

Hello everyone!
Obviously this is an extremely worrying and unsettling time for everyone, and children will pick up on this. It is important to allow children to talk about their worries and be there to reassure them. The author John Burgerman has released this free picture ebook all about worries, as a way to talk about the Coronavirus and to provide reassurance. Hopefully you find it helpful.
Hope you are all well! Stay safe ☺️

Looking at the Sky

Good morning everyone.
There are some amazing natural phenomenons happening in the sky in May. Have a look tonight for the ‘Milk Moon – the last super moon of 2020. Then see if you can spy the close approach of the moon on 12th May. Most special of all, is the comet swan which can be seen on 27th May.
Happy stargazing 🌟
