Good morning everyone.
There are some amazing natural phenomenons happening in the sky in May. Have a look tonight for the ‘Milk Moon – the last super moon of 2020. Then see if you can spy the close approach of the moon on 12th May. Most special of all, is the comet swan which can be seen on 27th May.
Happy stargazing 🌟
Good morning everyone!
There is supposed to be another sunny few days this week, so here is a fun science activity that you can do outdoors. You are going to experiment to see which items float on top of the water and which items sink to the bottom..
You will need a large basin/storage box with no holes in it (The clear underbed storage boxes are good for this!) Get a grown up to help you til fill the container with water. Get them to help you to gather a selection of items from around the house to use for the experiment ( make sure you ask a grown up for help incase some of the items are precious!) Have a chat about what the items are made of and guess whether you think they will float or sink. Have a go and see if you were right! Do you notice anything about the items that float/sink? Maybe the material they are made of? Have a chat with a grown up about what you have learned from your experiment.
Have fun! ☺️
Hello everyone!
Here is an easy to make activity that you can use with a variety of different materials/loose parts. You will need 5 or 10 tubes (you can cut the kitchen roll ones in half). You will also need some strong cardboard for the base. In the picture they have used PVA glue to stick the tubes to the base, but sellotape is probably easier and more likely to be hiding in a drawer at home. Before you stick the tubes down, label them either 1-5 or 1-10. Some of you might even manage to do up to 20! Once the tubes are stuck down, you are ready to use your number line. You can use anything you have at home, say for example, small pebbles, pasta shells, straws, pennies, etc. Sort them out so that each tube contains the right number of items. Check them when you are done. Remember to count items properly, we have to touch/move one item at a time and say the number in sequence, starting at 1. It might be easier to move the items from one spot to another so you know they’ve been counted.
Happy counting guys! ☺️
Good morning everyone. I hope you are all stay safe but of course having lots of fun. Stumbled across this great, easy activity to do at home with your grown up or maybe an older brother or sister. At nursery we like to experiment with taking pictures. Our children have access to iPads and cameras to develop their ICT skills and to explore the nursery environment through a different perspective. I hope you all have fun trying this activity out and it would be lovely if you could post examples of your photography skills. Have fun everyone and stay safe. 🤗
Good morning everyone!
I hope you have had a nice weekend.
Music and rhythm is something that we all like to experiment with. Here is a little craft activity where you will end up with your own rain stick at the end of it. You can shake it along with music to your hearts content!
You will need:
– a cardboard tube (tinfoil/cling film works better than kitchen roll), thick paper for ends, rubber bands, rice/beans/lentils for inside the rain stick, decorations (paint, pens, wool, stickers, glitter, pipe cleaners…..the list is endless!)
What to do: 1. Decorate your tube and leave to dry. 2. Cut out two circles from the thick paper. Ship around the edge. 3. Attach one end and secure with rubber bands. 4. Fill your rain stick with the lentils etc. 5. Put the other circle on the other end and secure with rubber bands. 6. Finish decorations if you want to add extra. 7. Shake, shake, shake!!

I thought that this wee challenge was fairly doable in the Menziehill area, until ‘find a sheep’! If anyone does find a sheep, please let us know😂👍
