This week Hudson has been helping to create a feelings area. he has been learning how to use a hammer safely to put nails in the wall to hang things up.

George has been building sandcastles.  He used different containers to create different sizes of castles.

A few children have been exploring messy play using their senses and transporting it to other areas of the garden.

Inside, a few children have been engaging in different kinds of roleplay using their imagination.

Some children have also been exploring paint using different objects for printing.

3-5s

A group of children have shown a continued interest in pirates from last week transferring this to the other garden. They have been finding out about flags and creating their own ones. Others have been looking for and investigating treasure around the garden.

They have been looking at books to find out more about pirates and get ideas for their roleplay. Sophie decided she wanted a pirate head scarf.

At the end of last week a couple of children were talking about having lazers on the boat. This week a lazer area was created. the children had to problem solve to move through it trying not to touch the lazers. Other children used it as a spider web.

Inside, children continue to show interest in letters. A number of children have been playing letter bingo matching together letters which are the same. A couple of children have shown interest in writing their name.

In the order garden, a group of children have shown an interest in climbing and jumping. They have been challenging themselves to climb and jump from greater heights adding additional crates. Through this they have been assessing and managing their own risk.

Inside, there has been a real interest in building this week. Children have been using their imagination to create a range of models. Ash has revisited this  daily creating new meglasaurs to add to his already built ones . He has made different sizes of them and different types. He has also made drawings of his models and engaged in roleplay with them.

A few children have been sorting objects by colour this week. They have also started to count out some objects.

A couple of children have shown interest in building towers using different construction materials.

A group of children have shown an interest in police role-play and building a police station. This week we watched a video to find out more about what the police do and how they help people.

Some children have been using the small word people figures engaging in role-play and building homes for them.

A few children have been identifying familiar letters to them and practised copying letters.

Ali has been identifying the letter at the start of words.

A few children continue to show interest in shapes using them to build and make pictures.

Joshua and Aarron were forming shapes in the salt.

A group of boys used the soapy water to make a large puddle for them to splash in.

A few children have shown interest in exploring the leaves sitting in them and throwing them up in the air watching them fall.

A group of children played pairs identifying pictures that matched.

In the garden, a group of children used loose parts to create their own pirate ship. They created a flag and treasure maps.

In the garden, a group of children have been developing their gross motor skills through participating in obstacle courses and climbing.

Some children have been adding water to the sand observing how it changes consistency. They have used the trucks and diggers to collect and transport the sand.

Hudson has been developing his fine motor skills doing jigsaws.

A couple of children have been mark making using chalk.

Hallie has been helping her friends this week by taking off their coats.

A few of the boys got together to create some music.

3-5s

A few children have been investigating different electrical equipment at the workbench taking it apart using the tools. Others have been using the wood to hammer nails into.

After learning about the word stitch in their story last week, a few children tried stitching themselves.

In the garden, a group of children have shown interest in controlling traffic learning about different signs that can be used.

Ali has been practising writing numbers using chalk.

A few children wanted to use the bridges but they would not stand up on their own. Harley looked for something to hold up the bridge and problem solved until she had the right number of pieces to hold up the bridges.

In the other garden, a group of children worked together using a pulley to pick up and transport items.

Joshua noticed the fan which blew onto the garden. He collected leaves and brought them to the fan letting go of them and observing how the fan made the leaves to travel. Oliver observed what Joshua was doing and joined in.

Others were jumping in the leaves and burying one another.

Inside, a few children have been using shapes to create their own pictures and towers.

In the water tray, a few children have been investigating different containers filling them up and pouring them out observing the water travel in different ways and transporting it from one container to another.

 

George has continued to explore fire fighter role-play in different ways.

  

In the garden, a couple of children used the blocks to create their own fire engine. They used hula hoops to represent steering wheels.

Some children have been developing their cutting skills using scissors to cut different materials.

A couple of children have been developing their fine motor skills through threading activities. 

A group of children played a listening game where they had to listen to the instruction and select the right picture putting it in the right place.

3-5s

This week in ABC and beyond one group started to focus on a new story- The Elves and the Shoemaker. This week they were learning about the word stitch.

The other group have started to read a book about coronavirus. This week they were learning about the word virus.

A group of children have shown a real interest in floating and sinking selecting different objects both indoors and outdoors and investigating whether they float or sink.

In the garden, this group investigated the size of splash different objects made trying to find the object which made the biggest splash.

The interest in shapes has continued this week. Joshua used his checklist to identify shapes in the other garden. He noticed the puddle was a circle so he ticked this on his shape checklist.

Other children used the shape cards matching these to different items in the garden.

Other children have used shapes to create pictures and build towers.

A number of children have been exploring different materials for building creating different models.

Freddy built a jungle for the wildlife animals.

A group of children used loose parts to create their own picnic.

A group of children have shown a real interest in using clay and play dough to create a range of models. They have worked together to make the play dough and used a range of loose parts and herbs.

In the garden, a group of children went on a scavenger hunt to find some animal figures. The children extended this themselves finding other items within the garden and counting how many objects they had collected.

In the home corner, a few children have been engaged in cafe role play taking turns to serve food and be a customer.

This group of children worked together to transport water from one place to another.

A few of the children continue to show a real interest in firefighter roleplay.

They used paint to print and create imaginary fires.

Some children collected leaves from the garden and also used pumpkin seeds to create their own works of art. 

Logan has shown interest in roleplay in the home corner.

Some of the children used loose parts to create an obstacle course for them to move around the room.

3-5s

Some of the children have shown a real interest in numbers. They have been trying to identify numbers and put them in order. They have also been hiding them around the garden for others to find.

Joshua noticed some of the shapes on the signs inside and outside of the nursery. Other children began to show interest so they have been drawing shapes and going on shape hunts around the garden using their checklists.

They have continued this interest inside playing shape and pattern games on the interactive board.

 

A few children have set up their own cafe in the home corner taking orders and serving food.

Harley has been comparing the weight of different household items.

A group of children were exploring chalk outside using brushes to spread the chalk to create their own fireworks.

In Word Aware group the children have been learning about the word empty. Lyall showed us an empty basket he found in the nursery.

In Numeracy group time, children have been playing games which help them to practise counting and recognise numbers and shapes.

A few children have shown an interest in building their own tracks for the trains to travel on. They have been problem solving to make sure the train can move all the way around the track.

In the garden, a number of children have been investigating the sand adding water to it to change the consistency of the sand. Some of them have been building sandcastles.

A few children have been exploring the clay developing their fine motor skills as they mould it in to different creations.

 

In the water area, some children have began to show an interest in floating and sinking observing and discussing what happens when they put different objects into the water.

Danny and Aarron were using the measuring stick to measure how tall they were. They then transported it around the garden to measure different items. They looked at the numbers recognising those they know.

Carving, investigating, discussing and decorating pumpkins.

A group of children took turns to play a Halloween matching game on the interactive whiteboard.

In the garden, a group of children collected together their own ingredients and  mixed them to create a witches potion.

Some children have been developing their fine motor skills placing pegs in boards.

On rainy days, a group of children have shown interest in investigating the large puddle in the garden. Some children have also  collected water and used it to create their own puddles.      

Another group of children continue to show interest in playing the floor is lava. They used loose parts to create places for them to jump between to keep them safe from the lava.

All of the children have been reading The Rainbow Fish story in their groups learning more about sharing. In the story the Rainbow Fish is on his own as he does not want to share with others. After being given some advice he decides to share his colourful scales and other fish ask him to play with them. Each week the children learn about a new word from the story. They have learned about the words proud and silent.

In group time, some of the children have been singing counting rhymes and playing games about shapes. 

In the garden a couple of children found a tiny red spider.  Ayva wanted to find other colours of spiders. A few children then went on to the computer to find out what other colours of spiders you can get.

A number of the children have shown real interest in firefighter role play. They have been using different pipes and water within their play.

They continued the idea of fire and fire fighters using sticks to create their own campfire.

A few children explored different ways of making the balls travel using guttering and pipes.

Others have been challenging themselves through climbing and jumping.

A couple of children have shown interest in exploring animal stories looking at the pictures and starting to identify what they can see.

Inside, some of the children have been measuring and mixing together their own paint.

3-5s

A few of the children in the 3-5s have also shown interest in firefighter role-play. They have used the tunnel, pipes and water within their play re-enacting what firefighters do.

A couple of children have been transporting water and creating their own puddles.

A group of children also continue to search the garden digging for mini beasts. They have been looking at books to find out more about the features of some mini beasts and what they like to eat learning new facts.

Some children have been using the ladders to climb adjusting the angle of the ladder to further challenge themselves.

Kayden and Lyall have been exploring different ways to make water travel. Today they were blowing the water to create their own bubbles.

A number of children in different playrooms have expressed great interest in playing the floor is lava. This has developed into an interest in volcanoes in one playroom.

Sophie continues to revisit potion making finding and selecting her own ingredients.

Henry and Harley worked together to line up the cars. Harley counted how many they had touching each car as she counted.

In the art studio, a few children have been exploring paint and using leaves to create pieces of art.

A couple of children worked together using different sized construction blocks balancing them to create towers.

Some of the children have been developing their fine motor skills by threading different objects onto pipe cleaners.

Others have been mixing water with the paint blocks to create paint. They have used the paint to create pieces of art.

A few children made and explored gloop engaging in sensory play.

3-5s

A number of children have been looking at the balance book trying out different balancing activities in the nursery and the garden.

Others have been developing their fine motor skills and problem solving skills piecing together puzzles.

A few children have been practising sequencing numbers from 1-10 playing caterpillar count on the interactive whiteboard.

Joshua played another bug game sequencing numbers to 10 and beyond.

Riley used the Paint programme on the Interactive board to draw pictures.

Deryn, Riley and Dannika were exploring the balance scales putting different objects in each side and observing what happened. They identified which items were the heaviest by observing what happened to the scales.

A few children played the Jack and the beanstalk game together. They took turns to identify and match shapes then helped to build the beanstalk.

Oliver spent time building his own train track. He selected the pieces and problem solved to get pieces to fit. When he was finished he took a photograph of his track.

Malcolm spent time in the garden one rainy afternoon. He showed great interest in investigating the large puddle in the mud kitchen.

In the other garden, they transported water to create their own puddle.

Towards the end of last week we got a new gazebo for one of the 3-5 nursery gardens. A few children were keen to watch the men as they built up the gazebo.

A few children have enjoyed playing in the gazebo adding materials to make it more enclosed and engaging in role-play.

In the other garden, Oscar used the blocks to design his house building the bricks one on top of the other.

Danny created an outer structure and problem solved to find the right sized bricks to fit inside to make  a garden.

A few children have been investigating loose parts and using their imagination to find different uses for resources.

Inside, others have been developing their fine motor skills showing an interest in threading and cutting.

Others have been developing their pincer grip through mark making in different ways.

After reading the 3 little pigs in group time, Shelley used the character props and the book to retell the story.

During group time, the children continue to participate in table top games developing their sharing, listening, memory and turn taking skills.

A few children have shown an interest in exploring apples after eating these for snack. They developed their cutting skills cutting open an apple and identified the different parts. They also looked at a book about apples.

Some of the children have been collecting items from the garden and using them to create pieces of art.

In the garden, some children have been involved in sensory play using foam.

Every week they participate in music time where they dance, sing and play instruments along with the music.

They also have relaxation time together listening to soft music.

At book bug time, they sing rhymes together and share stories with book bug.

 

3-5s

As a number of children have shown interest in looking for minibeasts in the garden, we chose the very hungry caterpillar as our first ABC and beyond book. Each week the children have been learning a new word from the story. They learned about the words tiny, cocoon and nibbled.

This week the children took turns to retell parts of the story using puppets.

Some children have been playing the hungry caterpillar board game. They took turns to spin the spinner and move their caterpillar around the board feeding him foods from the story when landing on certain spaces.

Harley built the caterpillar putting the numbers in order from 0-10.

In the water tray, some children have been mixing different ingredients to create their own scents of soap.

Out in the garden, a number of children have been developing their physical skills by using different pieces of equipment to climb over extending and challenging themselves as they go.

   

Danny decided he wanted to make his own slide. He worked with others using construction blocks to create it.

A number of children have shown interest in making their own scents of play dough. They started off using herbs from the garden then tried adding different spices to their play dough to see how it smelled.

A few children have been using the wheelbarrows to transport materials around the garden engaging in role-play. Lyall and Danny were investigating the scales looking at the numbers and how it changed when they added or took away stones.

After learning how to play duck duck goose, Aria organised a game herself asking others if they wanted to play and taking on the role of the adult in organising the game.

A number of children continue to show interest in water and exploring how it travels using different objects.

 

Inside, some children have been developing their fine motor skills threading different objects onto string or pipe cleaners.

A few children used loose parts to create their own pirate ship. They decided it needed a flag so used paint and paper to create their own.

Some children continued to explore the idea of boats in the other garden putting seats on the boat and engaging in role-play together rescuing people who were stuck out at sea.

Josie has been very creative when using play dough and loose parts. She created a monster then changed it into a caterpillar adding on feet. She then designed a rainbow.

In the garden, some children have been developing their ball skills trying to throw and kick a ball into the net.

A few children have also started to show an interest in reading stories.

3-5s

The children did a travel to nursery survey matching their photo to the picture which showed how they got to nursery.

Some of the children have been creating their own paint and mixing up their own potions.

In the garden, some children have been challenging themselves physically by using loose parts and setting themselves targets.

Other children continue to show an interest in finding minibeasts.

Some of the children participated in an experiment observing the volcano they had made erupting.

After the experiment, they investigated the lava using their senses.

A few children have been exploring different ways to make water travel investigating through pouring, filling and emptying.

At the end of the day, some children have been playing games together in small groups developing their sharing and turn taking skills.

The children in the 3-5s got to vote for a name for their group. They used a sticker to vote placing it on the picture of their favourite name.

Some of the children were practising their counting skills by counting out cupcakes and feeding them to teddy.

Oliver made a car using loose parts.
