Bear Snores On Art Work

The nursery boys and girls have created some wonderful pieces of art inspired by the book we are looking at just now.

Maisie drew a mouse, Rachael drew a snail and Molly drew a bear at the writing table.

At the art area some of the children painted the animals from the story.

Den building

Following on from our story Bear Snores On in which a bear sleeps in a cave through Winter while other animals sneek in his cave a have a party the nursery boys and girls have been very busy this week building dens inside and outside the nursery. The Orange Group helped build a den in the imaginative area. First we had to sort out all the bits by colour (each pole had a coloured dot inside) and put them into piles.

Then we discussed the plan of our den. We had to make sure the correct coloured pole went in the right place and that all the poles were connected together properly.

The we covered our den. On ce our den was complete we decided what we would put in it. Some of the suggestions were cushions, blankets, paper and pencils, books, cuddly toys etc.

Library Visits and “ABC and Beyond”

During the nursery  year we will be visting the Lochee Library in our groups several times. We will walk to Lochee and meet Joan the librarian. She will be reading different stories and singing songs with us. We will be mading craft models there too. We will get a chance to look at the books in the children’s section and choose some to take back to read in nursery. Joan has said she will let us have a turn using her bleep machine and date stamp. Anyone can join the library, all you need  to do is ask to join and you will be given  a library card.

” ABC and beyond is our early years literacy program we are introducing this year.It builds on and extends our literacy studies from last year. We choose a book to look closely focusing on different aspects in more detail such as conversation, vocabulary, story comprehension, language of learning, print knowledge and phonological awareness. This term we willl be focusing on new vocabulary by picking out 5 words to discuss. we will be using props, drama, songs, pictures, evplainations and art/craft to help reinforce these words. Our first story is called Bears Snores On- a story about a bear who is hibernating while other animals sneak in his cave and have a party. Our focus words are: hibernate, cave, nibble, flutter and slumbering. If you use these words at home too to reinforce them we would really appreciate your help and support.
