This forenoon the children (nursery excluded) were taken to the Kingsway on the occasion of a visit by H.M. the Queen. The school was closed in the afternoon.

Coronation Gifts,a mug and a bar of chocolate, were distributed to the children today.
June 1-3
Coronation Holiday.
June 26th
Classes P3 to P7 attended the Odeon Theatre this morning to see the Coronation film “A Queen is crowned”
1947
April 19th
Two hundred children from this school went to Belmont Camp for a stay of two weeks. The following members of staff accompanied them: Mr C.H. Wood (teacher in charge) Mr Sidney Groves, Miss Jean Tosh, Miss Margaret Keay and Miss Jessie Stewart. During this period the children remaining at home were grouped under miss Moonie, Mr Anderson and Miss Bruce.
May 3rd
The school has been broken into during the night of 2nd May and a small sum of money stolen from the Headmaster’s desk.

May 8th
The school did not open today on account of orders from the Government that today was appointed as the day on which hostilities ceased in Europe (V.E. Day)
May 9th and 10th
The school closed on these two days by order of the Town Council. the school reopened today 11th with a special Religious service conducted by Rev. Harold Ross, School Chaplain.

January 11th
Mrs Mathieson, Superintendent of meals in Schools along with Treasurer Caldwell and the Quantity Surveyor visited the school today to arrange for dinners being served in this school.

Keys for shelters received today (6 keys for 16 doors!)
Reported to director a case of a pupil having eaten laburnum seeds from tree in school garden and asked to have the tree pruned or removed.

“Alert” from 11.25am till 11.45am.
Fire watching starts tonight.
February 16th
Wardens of Northern Division inspected gas masks in all classes today.

Start of Fire Watching postponed and beds etc removed.
November 28th
Sent to Director of Education the names of members of staff who required the use of Steel Helmets.
December 5th
The director of Education visited the school today to enquire re possibility of re-starting a Nursery Class at Dens Road.
December19th
The last shelter has now been completed and all classes are now on full time.
October 1940
October 10th 1940 Received permission from Health Dept to use Air raid shelter in playground at Dens Road School.
October 16th
Air Raid Warning at 2.15pm. All clear at 2.30pm.
October 18th The monthly return shows that 49 pupils are now receiving full time instruction and 644 are receiving half time instruction.
