Welcome to Primary 2/3 2011

Hello everyone and welcome to a new year of the primary 2/3 blog. This year brings a new group of children into the class along with some familiar faces and a new teacher, Mr Robertson.

2011/12 looks set to be an exciting one in the classroom and we’ll be posting regularly to keep everyone updated.

We have learned a lot through our Space topic!

Our planetarium

Last term, we learned so much through active learning. While we were playing at the writing table, we learned how to write a list of things we would need for our journey. We wrote letters to our friends while on a journey to another planet. We wrote stories about robots and aliens. We had to design and build rockets while learning with our peers. We had to discuss how we would do it and we had to agree. After our trip to Sensation, we decided to build a planetarium. We  take off the different planets of our Solar System and try to put them back in the correct order. We learned how rockets were lauched and learned about energy and force. At the sand tray, we had ‘Moon sand’. We used used sieves to find the smallest stones and scales to compare the weight of the sand, gravel, stones….
