This Week in P1S…

On Tuesday morning we were absolutely shocked to discover a great, big, ma-hoosive beanstalk in the corner of our classroom! Let us tell you how we think this appeared and about our learning this week…

On Monday, we received another letter from the dragon saying he was so pleased we had decided to help rebuild Fairyland. He gave us some gifts to help us begin building – ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ story, pots, compost and beans. We got runner beans and then at the bottom of the envelope we discovered MAGIC BEANS! We planted our own beans and the magic beans to see what would happen.

On Tuesday we were so excited to see that the magic beans had grown into a beanstalk! We have spent time this week getting to know the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ to see what might happen next in our classroom.

To help us remember the story we have planted beans of our own (they sadly don’t grow as quickly as the magic beans even when we water them!), built beanstalks from Lego, making our own story books, puppet shows and playing ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ in our house corner.

We can’t wait to see what the Dragon will send us next!

This Week in P1S…

It has been a spook-tacular week in P1S! We have loved learning about and celebrating Halloween! Let us tell you about our fun-filled week…

This week we have been very creative! We have been making lots of Halloween crafts and goodies to enjoy and to help us celebrate as a class.

We loved making our healthy spider snacks – we had to concentrate and be careful though to get the raisins on the cocktail sticks. I hope you enjoyed munching on these at home.

We have also made lots of crafts including a Halloween basket and Halloween wreath so we will have a few decorations to share with you.

It has been great fun dressing up, casting spells and making Haunted Houses from Lego.

What a week – I hope you all have a lovely weekend, continuing the Halloween celebrations together.

This Week in P1S…

We have returned from the October break, ready to take on term 2, and WOW has it been an exciting start to the term. Let us tell you about our week and, in particular a very special visitor we had…

Very excitingly, (and not to alarm you!) but a dragon visited our classroom yesterday! We were all shocked and very excited. He left us some fairy dust and a letter. In the letter he said that his home, Fairyland’, had been destroyed. He had visited our classroom while we were out and thought that we would be able to help rebuild Fairyland with our love of books and super ‘can do’ attitude! We are making something to send back to the dragon to say that we accept his challenge! We cannot wait for him to be back in touch!

We enjoyed reading the book ‘Mixed’ and mixing colours. We found out that you get different types of colours – primary and secondary. We used our primary colours to make secondary. We look forward to mixing and making more colours to paint pictures soon.

We also enjoyed making our own ‘Mixed’ characters. We looked at different characters in the story and then made our own.

This Week in P1S…

Although the holidays are almost here, we have been working as hard as ever! This week we have been making lots things in the classroom we are very proud of.

We have learned the story of Joseph and his Amazing Coat. We have really enjoyed listening to the musical version of this story and joining in with the dancing. To help us remember all the things that happened to Joseph we made him a prison and palace from Lego, created a puppet show to retell the story and decorated a coat with pens and small pieces of paper. They are very colourful!

We also made worry dolls. We did this after reading Silly Billy. Billy is a boy who worries a lot so his Grandma gave him worry dolls to help him share his worries and worry less. In case we worry, we made our own for the classroom with help from our big buddies.

This Week in P1S…

It has been another busy week! We are really enjoying learning new sounds and using our numbers 0 – 10 more and more. Let us tell you about our learning this week…

We have learned more new sounds – we have learned n and i. We have been listening and finding the sounds in words. We have to use our best listening ears.

We have enjoyed visiting the library. We love reading stories and looking at the pictures. This has helped us make our own books in class.

We have enjoyed playing with Numicon pieces in Numeracy. We are getting speedy at finding the Numicon pieces.

We have been making lots of finger patterns this week. Ask us to show you different ways to make numbers 1 – 10 with our fingers. You will be surprised how many ways we can show.

We enjoyed learning about Daniel and the Lions. We liked building a lions’ den from Lego. Some of lions’ dens were creative and included a TV for the lions and a big pool of water so they are not going to get thirsty.

I have learned all my numbers to 10 and have been counting up and down lots.
