# This week in P3IL…

This week in P3IL we have been busy in Maths learning all about place value. We have been learning more about the importance of 0 as a place holder. We have been working to partition numbers so we can see how many hundreds, tens and ones are in a 3 digit number. We have been having lots of fun doing this and playing matching games with dienes counters!

In English and Literacy, we have been having A LOT of fun designing and working on our books more. We have also been working using adjectives to our writing to make it more engaging for the reader.

We have also been working hard on practising for the young scots showcase next week. We hope you can make it to hear our beautiful singing!

In our IDL topic for Romans, we have been learning about Roman Numerals and began to learn how to write some numbers in Roman numerals. We also LOVED P3/4NM’s class assembly today all about if the Romans should run the school!

It has been another brilliant week!

# This week in P3IL…

We have had another brilliant week in P3IL! In Maths and Numeracy we have been working on writing and identifying fractions.  We have also began to work on a bit more on place value and understanding the importance of 0 as a place holder. We have been doing a variety of different activities based on this and will continue to work on this next week.

In English and Literacy, we have been doing a variety of activities to build on our spelling, handwriting and reading throughout the week. In honour of world book day, we have began to write a book (imaginative story) that features ourselves so we are VERY excited to show you that!

In art and design we have been learning about the importance of colour when illustrating and designing the covers of our books. We have been looking at what message we want out covers and illustrations to convey and what moods different colours communicate.

The costumes for world book day were absolutely phenomenal and made teaching a little tricky that day as Miss Low couldn’t stop laughing at the brilliant outfits. Thank you for all the hard work and time you may have put into the costumes!

We have had a brilliant week and look forward to next week!

We have had another brilliant week of learning in P3IL.

In Maths and Numeracy we have been working more on our fractions. We have began to consolidate our learning about fractions looking at the different ways we can represent fractions.

In RSHP we have been learning about what makes us unique. We looked at the work of famous artists who made self portraits. We used this as inspiration and created our own self portraits. We chose from a range of media including painting, collage, oil pastels, pens and pencils. We had a lot of fun looking at what makes us unique and selecting what we would include in our self portraits. We can’t wait to show you our beautiful portraits on display in our gallery on parent’s night!

In English and Literacy, we have been using the Eagle Eye strategy to support our reading as well as looking at the kinds of questions we can ask about what we read in order to expand our comprehension of the text. On Thursdays please bring in your chill and challenge books (if you have finished reading them) to get new ones. We will also be going to the school library to change our books on a Thursday.

Looking forward to another amazing week!

This week has been a very fun and creative week!

In English and Literacy, we have writing a story to create a stop motion movie. We have to describe the characters, setting and plot of our story. As part of our expressive arts this week, we have been designing and creating the characters and settings for our stop motion movie. We are really excited to begin recording our movies next week! We also enjoyed designing and creating the WOW badge designs we are going to submit for the competition.

In Maths, we have really began to get the hang of fractions. Miss Low was blown away this week by our fraction work! We were able to identify equivalent fractions such as 2 quarters = 1 half. We were able to break down a whole into many different fractions. We are beginning to become experts with our fractions!

Have a great holiday!

In English and Literacy, we researched the Roman army and created a report on a Roman soldier! We really enjoyed learning all about the different roles of the Roman soldiers and their armour.

In Maths, we have began working on fractions. We have began to investigate thirds and fifths as well as quarters and halves of a whole. We look forward to expanding on our knowledge as we are really enjoying the fraction problem solving!

Looking forward to the week ahead!

We have had a very fun and busy week!

In Maths and Numeracy, we have been learning more about division. This week we have been learning how to make equal fractions from a whole. We have been focusing on quarters, halves and thirds. We have been doing a range of fun challenges to help us grasp this concept!

In English and Literacy, we have learning about the story of Hercules and the first 3 of his 12 labours. First we read the story then we went on to act it out as part of our drama this week. Later, we then sequenced the story and worked in groups to draw out first 3 trials. This was a lot of fun as we had to work collaboratively and ensure that the story made sense going all the way across the paper.

Our IDL topic this term is Romans. As part of our topic, we had a class trip to the Alloa Library. We had a wonderful time picking out some new books to read in our class. We even got some books about the Romans that we are excited to read! We have also began to learn about the Roman Army and what their different pieces of armour are used for. Thank you so much to all the parent helpers who came along!

We are looking forward to next week!

This week has been full of fun and adventure!

In maths and numeracy we have been working further on learning different division strategies. We have began to interlink our learning  and see how we can use many different strategies to create the question when we have the answer. Below is one of the students creating different questions to get to the answer of 15.

We have been learning more about the a Romans as part of our IDL topic this term. We got to investigate some roman “poo” as part of our research about the diet of the Romans and how that compared to our diet. I did take a picture  but I will spare you from having to look! From our investigation we discovered the Romans ate many different things such as dates, olives, bread and oranges.

In literacy we have been learning to write an informative report. We wrote a report on dogs and had to have accurate and relevant information, organised under clear headings.

Today we watched the amazing performance of the upper school in collaboration with Scottish opera and it was absolutely amazing!

We are VERY excited for our class trip to the library next week so we can research our Roman topic further. Thank you to those parents who volunteered to help, we look forward to having you a come along!
