This week in P1HD

In Maths, we have been learning about patterns. We used our knowledge of 2D shapes to help us. We learned about colour patterns and shape patterns.

“A pattern is a colour, then another colour and you repeat it all over again.” – William

“We made a patterned caterpillar out of beads. I thought I could use one blue and two orange to make a pattern.” – Olivia

“We learned shapes. Triangles, rectangles, squares and circles.” – Marcus

In Literacy, we have been continuing our phonics lessons. We learned the sounds u, b and f and enjoyed watching Geraldine the Giraffe to help us find things around the house beginning with these sounds. We also did a piece of writing called ‘The Friendly Dragon’ and we had to describe this dragon.

“We learned about ‘u’. Down, back up and draw the puddle.” – Harvey

“I drew a dragon and ladders for my story so he can jump off the roof and fly.” – James

In Health and Wellbeing, we had circle time. We learned about who we are, what we like to do and what we are good at. We introduced each other in the circle and shared some positive things about ourselves.

This week in P1HD

In Maths, we have been learning about 2D shapes. We know that 2D shapes are shapes which are flat. We learned about squares, rectangles, circles and triangles.

“We went on a shape hunt. We had to pick up the shapes and put them in the right place on the carpet.” – Olivia

“A triangle has 3 corners.” – Harvey

“A rectangle has  got a long bit and a short bit. A square has all sides the same.” – James

In Literacy, we have been continuing our phonics lessons. As it is the last week before the October holiday, we revised some of the sounds that we already know rather than introducing any new ones. We also wrote a story called ‘Goldilocks’ visit to P1′ after reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears for our Fairyland topic. Mrs Cuthbert also came to our class to do a Thinking Reader lesson with us. She introduced the book Lost and Found.

“We read the story with the penguin and the boy and the umbrella to make the boat.” – John

In Health and Wellbeing, we had circle time. We read a story called ‘We are gentle… we don’t hurt others’ and we spoke about ways we can be gentle towards others in class.

This week in P1HD

In Numeracy, we have been revising our numbers to 10. We learned how to find numbers in between. We also had parents visit us in class to watch a numeracy lesson take place.

“6 is in between 5 and 7.” – John

“We played Topmarks games on the iPads. We had to sequence the smarties on the gingerbread men.” – Harvey

“We had to count how many cakes there were and give them to the teddy bear.” – Frankee

In Literacy, we have been continuing our phonics lessons. We learned the sounds ‘o’, ‘c’ and ‘k’. We also wrote a story called ‘The Elves’ after reading The Elves and the Shoemaker for our Fairyland topic. Some of us shared our favourite toy for Show and Tell.

In Health and Wellbeing, we had circle time. We read a story called ‘We are kind and helpful’ and we spoke about ways we can be kind and helpful in class and why this is important.

“I would give someone my pencil to be kind and helpful.” – Claire

In Numeracy, we have been learning how to write the numbers 9 and 10. We revised numbers after and learned how to identify numbers before.

“We had to point to the number you asked us to. We had to count backwards or forwards.” – Olivia

“We held the correct number up on our number fans.” – Harvey

“Write the number 9 in the yellow boxes.” – John

In Literacy, we have been continuing our phonics lessons. We learned the sounds ‘n’, ‘p’ and ‘g’. We also wrote a story called ‘The Gingerbread Man’ after reading this fairy tale for our Fairyland topic. Some of us shared our favourite toy for Show and Tell.

“I wrote about a crocodile who ate the people and then The Gingerbread Man.” – Noah

“I liked watching Geraldine the Giraffe because he was so funny. He taught us the sound ‘g’.” – Paige

In Health and Wellbeing, we had circle time. We read a story called ‘We work hard…we don’t waste time’ and we spoke about ways we can work hard in class and why this is important.

In Numeracy, we have been learning how to write the numbers 6, 7 and 8. We learned about numbers after and identified some numbers after using our number lines.

“We had to count numbers using our fingers.” – Eilidh

In Literacy, we have been continuing our phonics lessons. We learned the sounds ‘d’, ‘t’ and ‘i’. We also wrote a story called ‘My New Clothes’.

“I was drawing my new jumper. It lights up and has Rudolph on it.” – Harvey

“I like wearing my new costume because it has a vampire on it and my little brother got a mask.” – Noah

In Health and Wellbeing, we had circle time. We read a story called ‘We look after property’ and we spoke about ways we can respect others’ property in class.

In numeracy, we have been learning how to write the numbers 4 and 5. We also revised numbers 0-3. We put numbers in the correct sequence from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. We tried to guess some missing numbers too.

“I was hiding numbers with my family and having fun. We hid them underneath the couch and it was so much fun.” – Faith

In literacy, we have started our phonics. We learned the sounds ‘m’, ‘a’ and ‘s’. We also wrote a story called ‘I was Ill’.

This week in P1HD, we have been having lots of fun learning new things!

In numeracy, we have been learning how to write the numbers 3 and 4 and have revised numbers 0-2 from last week.
