  • We really enjoyed the new game on the iPad to help us spell our common words – here is the link: https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/lcwc/index.html

  • For arts and craft, we made elves with pictures of ourselves and paper/card and cotton wool to go round our pointy hats.

What do we need to get better at?

  • Sometimes we get mixed up with the meaning of number ‘before’ and ‘after’ and we need more practice of this with numbers to 100.
  • We want to get better at counting backwards from 100.

What’s gone well?

  • We enjoyed making some snowmen using card, googly eyes, pom-poms and outdoor sticks. They sit perfectly with our bigger snowman decoration in class!
  • We enjoyed writing tally marks in numeracy and looking at bar graphs for the first time. We picked this up super fast! Ask us to sing our rhyme to help us write in tally marks…
  • Writing was special this week, as we got to write to Santa! We told him the kind things we had done all year and also asked him a question very politely about what our Christmas Wishes were.
  • We have also loved singing our Christmas songs and cannot wait to share it with you.

What do we need to do better?

  • We want to try and skip count in 2s, 5s and 10s without the rap we usually have on in the background. Can you quiz me on my skip counting at home?

What’s gone well?

  • We are getting better at our multiplication skills. We are becoming more confident in creating equal groups and writing an addition and multiplication sentence for it.
  • We have also been introduced to  division, where we collected a certain amount of cubes and then shared it equally between a group.
  • We are doing lots of practice of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and we are getting more confident.
  • We enjoy our writing station where we get to create our own books, inspired by our favourite stories in class.
  • We got to create our own story about ‘the time we went back in time to Ancient Egypt’, where we worked in groups to draw our story ideas and act it out. We even had some people dressing up as mummies with toilet paper! Ask us about our amazing Egyptian adventures!
  • We celebrated St. Andrews Day by listening to the story about how Saint Andrew became our Patron Saint. We also made our own Scotland flags by using layering and sticking a range of blue materials.

What could we get better at?

  • We think we could try and get better at just giving it a go with writing and not worrying about spelling mistakes too much.

What do we want to do more of?

  • We would like to do some Christmas art/craft on the run up to Christmas.
  • We would like more opportunities to do ‘free writing’ where we create and write stories about whatever we like.

Literacy

  • We did some writing about pharaohs and tried our best to add in some descriptive vocabulary.  We described what our pharaoh looked like but also used some words to describe their personality.
  • Our sound of the week was ‘ai’. In our rotations we played an ‘ai’ themed four in a row and did some rainbow spelling. Ask your child how many ‘ai’ words they know!
  • We also read Chapter 4 of our Flat Stanley Egyptian Adventure book. It is such a fun book and is helping us learn lots about Egypt, our topic.

Maths

  • We learned about sharing wholes into quarters by taking part in ‘Pizza Fractions’!
  • To practice our numeracy skills we carefully estimated where we would place a number on a blank number line by using our fabulous counting in ten skills.

HWB

  • As a part of the discussion around COP26 and our Health and Wellbeing topic of food and health, we spoke about how we can tackle the problem of food waste. Some ideas were making sure to recycle where possible, use a food waste bin and home and to be adventurous with left over fruit and veg (e.g. make soup/banana bread) to help save our planet!

IDL

  • We learned a bit more about pharaohs in Ancient Egypt and designed our own Wesekh collar using gold or silver paint to make us look like royalty. We then carefully added some expensive jewels. We cannot wait to share our creations with you at home!

This Week in P2W.

What’s gone well?

  • We loved IDL this week as we got to take part in play stations about the role of a pharaoh. We built pyramids, designed Egyptian collars with jewels and learned how to research images of pharaohs on the iPads.
  • We also enjoyed counting forwards and backwards in 10s. We noticed how much better we are getting at it!
  • For art and writing, we had a Bonfire Night theme. We wrote a ‘senses’ poem about what we experience on Bonfire Night and used oil pastels to create a colourful firework scene.

  • We started our new topic, The Egyptians. We cannot wait to find out more about mummies and pyramids.
  • For art, we made Autumn trees using warm colours.

What do we need to get better at?

  • We all agree that we need to be quieter during our stations, so that everyone can work without distractions. We agreed that it was tricky to get settled in after the holidays!
  • We also want to get better at counting in tens, and trying to do it without any of the numbers in front of us. We found a song on Youtube that helps us practice. Ask your children to show you the counting in tens song, it is space themed!

What do we want to do more of?

  • We enjoy art and want to do more of it. For example, we want to do more painting, exploring materials, cutting etc.
