This week in P3Y…

We can’t believe that it’s nearly the last week of term 1! We talked about the expression today, ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ and we all agreed that it’s true!

We are very proud of all of our fantastic achievements this week. Many of us feel that we are growing in confidence and are showing progress in lots of areas of our learning. As part of our numeracy and literacy rotation stations, we have had options of mild, medium and spicy tasks. At the start of the term, lots of us chose to do the mild options as we were worried about getting things wrong. However, we are learning that if we get something wrong, we can use it as an opportunity to learn from our mistakes and try again!

In maths this week, we have been practicing telling the time. We agreed that as a whole class, we are great at telling the time to o’clock and half past. We explored times to quarter past and quarter to and worked through a range of examples. For our numeracy, we have been furthering our understanding of using multiplication arrays for our 5 times tables. We worked through a series of worded and picture problems, drew out the arrays then turned it into a multiplication question.

We were very lucky to receive a letter from our head teacher, Mrs Penman. She asked us to inform her of what we have been learning about and what we are enjoying or not enjoying about school. We each wrote a letter in response, concentrating on writing in full sentences, using connectives such as ‘and’ and ‘but’ and we all tried our best with our spellings. We have also spent some time this week working on our note-taking skills. We wrote down key words and events from the beginning, middle and ends of our reading books, then used these to give a summary of the story.

Our exploration of life in Ancient China continued this week. We learnt about Ying Zhang, the first Emperor of China who conquered all 7 of the Chinese states to create one common country. We discussed his interest in remaining the most powerful emperor ever and his commission of the terracotta army. We are excited to continue our learning about the Chinese dynasties and learn more about the ways of life in this huge and interesting country.

During our golden time on Friday, we celebrated the fact that every single person in P3Y had tried their best with their learning and behaviour this week and had a dance party – we have some awesome movers in our class! I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend.  Thank you once again for being such a brilliant bunch.

Miss Young.
