School Uniform Policy

School Uniform Policy Update

As you know, over the past few months, the Parent Council have been consulting with parents, carers, staff and pupils regarding school uniform options. We had total of 155 responses from parents and 262 from children and I attach the results to this letter. This is an amazing response and I thank you all for taking the time to give us your views.

Since publishing the preferred options in last week’s newsletter, we have had a significant number of comments regarding these options and these concerns were discussed at Monday’s Parent Council meeting. The main concerns were relating to the cost of the school uniform and the fact that the shirt/ tie option had
been withdrawn.

We have listened to your concerns and amended the proposals accordingly. What is important is that regardless of what the options are, is that there is clarity, consistency and uniformity, however I also feel strongly that we need to ensure that we keep costs down for all parents as much as possible.

The new uniform, which will be adopted from August 2019, will therefore be:

  • Grey school sweatshirt with school crest/logo
  • Grey school cardigan with school crest/ logo
  • Yellow polo shirt with school crest/logo
  • White polo shirt with no school crest/ logo
  • White shirt/ tie
  • Yellow gingham dress
  • Black trousers
  • Black skirt/ pinafore etc
  • Black school shorts
  • Black school shoes or boots
  • Black trainers with no visible branding i.e. no bright colours
  • A waterproof coat/jacket

  • Primary 7 pupils may wear a black school sweatshirt with school crest/logo.

The items with school crest/ logo can be purchased from our school uniform provider, Scotcrest. This is particularly important for the yellow polo shirt as in the past there have been many different shades of yellow and we wish to ensure uniformity across the school.  Uniform can be ordered through their website here. I hope that these changes go some way to allay some of your concerns and wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Denise Penman
Head Teacher
