Number Strategies in action!

Here are some ways pupils at St Serf’s learn to be confident users of number. These are on our website to allow you to help your children  with extra practice or if they ask you to explain something.

We encourage children that mistakes are good because we learn from them and to talk about how we got an answer.

We encourage pupils to use a variety of different strategies in their heads or on whiteboards to solve problems, instead of the traditional chimney sum, which will be introduced when pupils are number confident and secure in their understanding of place value. Below are 2 of the ways pupils are learning to multiply without a traditional chimney sum.
