Katie 1D3 – Teeth

On Tuesday we did work about teeth and we found out how many teeth we have in our mouths, it was fun๐Ÿ˜€. We have also done the body organs. One day someone from our group had to get on to the table and someone else had to draw around them, after that we got about nine bits of paper and we had to Colour them in and cut it out, we had to put them on to the bit of paper and put the organ were we thought they went and that was fun also ๐Ÿ˜€

Building bodies

IG3 and 1D3 have both been building (and modelling) human bodies. Each group drew round the torso of a ‘volunteer’ on a sheet of poster paper. Groups then had to cut out / trace ย and colour life sized human organs to construct a poster sized model of the human body.

Here are some of the models made by 1D3 being shown off by members of their groups –

Arnie

On Thursday, 1D3 nd 1G3 met Arnie.

Arnie is a friend who helps us see under the surface. Arnie is a model to show the main organs that make up our body and how they al fit together.

The target was to be able to label at least 8 different body organs and describe what they do for the body.

Popular were the heart, the lungs, the brain and the liver. A little bit more unsettling were the stomach, the intestines, the anus, the kidneys and the bladder.

On Monday and Tuesday the aim is to model a model of the body.

Test warning

Both classes started revision of the ‘Matter’ topic on Friday. We will continue with some revision as we start the new topic. The test will be on Friday of next week (12th) with Miss Anderson (1D3) and Mrs Murphy (1G3).

You have one week’s warning about the test, so spend some time going over the work in your jotter. Concentrate on the vocabulary revision sheet and the arrangement of particles in solids, liquids and gases.

Last week’s fun and frolics

Last week’s work looked at solubility -whether or not a substance will dissolve. We –

  • tested different substances to see if they were soluble in water
  • agreed rules so that we can observe what is soluble and what is not
  • compared solubility in cold and warm solvents
  • used our knowledge of particles to explain why more solute can dissolve in warm solutes
  • compared solubility in different solvents – water and white spirit
  • Made a hot saturated solution so that we could use it to start growing crystals

Still waiting for someone in the class to post a photo so that the class can be allowed to photograph experiments again
