Week Ending 21st June

Good afternoon,

This week has been great, here is a snapshot of what we have been doing.

We met our teacher for P7  :-p and enjoyed looking at the slideshow about what life in P7 will be like. We are looking forward to skiing, our residential trip and continuing our learning journey next session.

In  Literacy, we have been creating CV’s for House captain positions next year. Our CV’s were looked at by our current House captains and some of us were selected for interview. We will find out who the House captains for each house is on Monday afternoon.

We have been helping the P2’s to develop their IT skills and showed them how to log on to the laptops and access Education City.

In P.E we have been playing team games. We also managed to complete a whole marathon as a class on Wednesday. Well done to WB, who managed to complete ten 400m laps in the thirty mins!

A lot of us managed to achieve our Platinum Award this week and Mrs McGirr is so proud of them all!

We watched a very interesting documentary about Global Warming and took notes. We had a very mature conversation about what we can do to help the world we live in and reduce our carbon footprint. We created some fantastic powerpoint presentations using our notes.

We also got to see the P7 Leavers assembly on Tuesday.

Good afternoon!

We have been playing end ball in P.E. JT enjoyed spending time in the nursery as part of the transition picnic. We also spent some time helping the P2’s log on, play games and log off the laptops this week.

See the source imageBikeability has now finished and we had our final session on Tuesday.  Everyone who started the course was successful in passing. Look out for badges on school jumpers today!

In Maths we looked at 3D shapes and their nets.

As part of our Literacy learning, we looked at persuasive techniques and created our own advertisements. We presented these in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style. Most people were successful in securing some investment from ‘The Dragons’. Also, we created our own CV’s this week. Applications and interviews for House and Vice Captain will take place next week! Best of luck to everyone involved!

We had our penultimate chanter lesson in P6 on Thursday!

Here are some of our favourite photos from our school trip last Friday:

We all had a great day! What a fabulous bunch of kids!

Week Ending 7th June

This week in our grammar lesson we learned about persuasive techniques and we learned about using bossy verbs. We learned about the features of advertisements and will use this in our writing next week. We plan to have a Dragon’s Den style approach for our persuasive adverts.

In P.E we were playing rounders and 5 bat cricket. We also continued our Bikeability training and learned how to complete a U-turn, pass a parked car, and how to leave a junction safely.

In Handwriting this week we were continuing to practise our letter formation with a poem about Windy Nights.

In Maths this week we looked at 2D shapes and we managed to identify lines of symmetry. We did this by cutting out the shapes and folding them and then drawing the lines using a ruler.

In our Health lessons this week we learned about taking appropriate risks, our 5 people we can talk to if we are worried about something and what an appropriate touch is. We also practised saying no when we felt uncomfortable.

In our Reading lesson we looked at ways that we can be persuaded. We learned about the five most effective words to use when trying to persuade someone to do or buy something. We looked at a couple of videos on YouTube and had a class discussion about the techniques used and how they made us feel.

We have also had the opportunity to use the laptops to research Christian beliefs, symbols and values. We presented these to our class.

Last Week in P6M

Sorry this blog is a little late, as the website was closed due to essential maintenance work.

This week we have been continuing our Buddy Training. Some of us have been reading with the little ones, some of us have been making dens and some of us have been taking part in baking experiences.

In our Bikeability session, we learned to ride our bikes on the road. We learned how to complete U-turns, left/right turns and how to travel safely past a parked car. We also looked at how to be safe when approaching or leaving from a junction on the road.

In P.E we got to play rounders and end ball. We are hoping the weather improves next week so we can go outside for P.E again.

In Health this week, we were learning about how to keep ourselves safe. We know that we have the right to feel safe.

In Maths this week we were learning about the properties of 2D shapes and each of us had a go at being the teacher. Each person had a 2D shape and had to teach everyone else about the properties of their shape.

In Science we learned about photosynthesis and how plants benefit society.

In our IDL lesson we learned about the harmful effects of smoking. We made information posters to share our learning.

In our Reading lesson we created our own remembering questions and had a little group quiz at the end.

Just a reminder that next Friday is our school trip to The Riverside Museum.

Week Ending 24th May 2019

Good afternoon and thanks for visiting our blog,

This week has been a bit different for us. We have taken part in a drumming workshop, where Steve was teaching us how to play African drums. We are very excited because we are going to take part in a whole school performance this afternoon. K and B were amazing at conducting P6H and P6M as we played a variety of tunes on the drums.

We have completed the whole song in our chanter lesson this week and had some people performing in front of the whole class. We can’t believe how much we have managed to learn in our chanter lessons. Only a few months ago, we could only play a few notes.

On Monday we had Jennifer from Live-N-Learn, who delivered a fantastic workshop about growth mind-set. We did some jigsaw puzzles and played a version of monopoly. We developed our understanding about having a growth mind-set approach to everything we do.

We found out who won Sports Day. The Junior cup was awarded to Red Rowan and the Senior cup was also awarded to Red Rowan.

On Wednesday, some of us represented our school at County Sports. We had G competing in the 100m, B competed in the relay race, F competed in the long jump and T competed in the relay race. We are delighted to share that Redwell managed to secure FIRST PLACE!! That is three years in a row that we have managed to scoop the winning title!

In Reading we learned about facts and opinions. We worked in mixed groups to decide if a variety of statements were opinions or facts.

In Music we were learning how to perform the cup song and to repeat a rhythm on drum pads.

In our Grammar lesson we learned about homonyms. We learned that homonyms are words which are spelt the same, sound the same but mean different things. An example of these kind of words: tie/park/pen/change/fly/back/bat.

In Maths we have been working on different types of triangles and 2D shapes. Some of the groups have been working on tiling and drawing lines of symmetry.

We have also been out on our bikes, as we begin our Bikeability 2 training. This week we learned how to do a safe start, safe stop and a U-turn. Next week, we will be going on the roads to continue to develop our skills on a bike.

In P.E we have been playing rounders and football.

Have a lovely weekend 🙂

Good afternoon,

This week in P6M we have been very busy!

This week in P.E we have been working on our shot-put skills. We learned how to throw it properly by using our Usain Bolt pose then moving into a Iron Man stance. We also continued to practise our High Jump and Long Jump. The reason we are doing this is to practice for County Sports.
