Learning focus this term:

 

Through our whole school topic about Space we will be learning about:

 

1. What is the Solar System and what is it made up of?
2. How does the sun, moon and earth link together?
3. Why do we have day and night?
4. Why do we have seasons and what are they?
5. What is a star? The children will get the opportunity to look at the sky at different times of the day and to note changes. They should be able to recognise the sun, moon and stars and explain how daily patterns are linked to the sun and the moon as well as talk about their daily routines at school and at home. The children will also be completing a “Moon Diary” as part of their homework to track the changes in the shape of the moon over time.

Core Skills learning focus:

• Working with children from my own class and from other classes
• Naming and labelling
• Recording our findings in a variety of ways including the use of digital cameras

Core Literacy:

• We will continue to learn the initial sounds of the alphabet and start to learn some digraphs ( 2 letters making 1 sound e.g. sh)
• We will be continuing to sound and blend letter sounds to read and spell words.
• In our reading books we will be focussing on reading from left to right, pointing to each word as we read and learning new vocabulary.
• We will be writing personal stories and experience different types of writing linked to our topic about Space.
• We are working on listening to and carrying out instructions carefully and promptly.

 

 

Core Numeracy:

 

• We will continue to work on number recognition and formation.
• We will be learning the days of the week, months of the year and the seasons.
• We will be learning to tell the time using o’clock.
• The children will be learning about greater or less than.
• We will be learning to identify coins and to use 1p coins to pay for items.
• We will be using counting materials and number lines to learn about adding.
