Red Nose Day 2015

On Friday 13th March we all came dressed in ‘Something Funny’ to raise funds for Comic Relief.  We strutted our stuff down the P1A catwalk and cheered each other on.

In the afternoon there was a special Red Nose Day assembly.  We sung the ‘Making Funny Faces’ song, we even learned the chorus in sign language, some P6’s performed a tap dance and some teachers surprised us with their own version of ‘Happy’.

It was a great day and Redwell raised over £1000 for charity.  WOW!

Learning about money…

This week we have started to learn all about money in Maths.  We have been looking closely at all the different coins and can identify name coins up to £2.  That’s a lot of money!!  We went on a treasure hunt to find coins that were hidden around the classroom and we had to sort them into the correct containers.  We had a lot of fun finding them and did a great job at sorting them correctly.  We have also been making amounts up to 20p using 1p coins using an interactive piggy bank on the board. We really enjoyed playing the corners game too!

Buddy Reading

Every Friday we have been doing Buddy Reading with our Big Buddies from Primary 7.  We read our reading books to them and they ask us some questions about the book.  Then we choose a book that our Big Buddy reads to us.  We all really enjoy it. Tricky Words!

We have been learning our tricky words in lots of fun ways like painting them and playing bingo.  Some even magically appeared when we painted plain white paper!! DSC02822 DSC02824 DSC02825

We painted stripes onto plain white paper and some tricky words appeared as if by magic.

Learning Larry targets – Rights Respecting School

This term we have been looking closely at Learning Larry and the right ‘I have the right to learn.’ Learning Larry certificate

Each week we will work towards a particular target and aim to demonstrate this in and around school.

Our 4 targets for this Right are:

I have the responsibility to come to school prepared and ready to learn.

I have the responsibility to listen to and follow instructions promptly.

I have the responsibility to present my work neatly.

I never give up!

Scotland

This term our learning context is Scotland.  We have learned lots of new things:

  • Scots dialect – we are able to say some Scottish words, count in Scots and sing some Scottish songs.
  • The main visitor attractions of Scotland
  • Where Scotland and Alloa are on a map
  • The differences between mainland Scotland and island life using stories like Katie Morag

We also learned a song called ‘If it wisnae for your wellies’ for our Scots assembly and performed it confidently .

Take a look at some of our work too…
