In topic we have been learning about the link between Finding Dory, dementia and memory loss. This involved learning about the brain and what each part of the brain is responsible for. We played some games to test each part and we had to write about a memory of our own. We also listened to a story about dementia and what it means.
Isla – We learned that one part of the brain helps us read numbers and see things.
Chloe – Another part of the brain helps you recognise your family and friends
This is called the temporal lobe.
Jessica – The frontal lobe helps you control your feelings.
In numeracy we have been developing our understanding of place value and numbers to 1000. This week we have been using our problem solving skills to solve addition problems. We are also aiming to improve our Beat That scores every week. Learn Its can be practised in school and at home.
In literacy we have been learning about nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. We completed a paired challenge this week in which we were looking for all four within a story. We have been using VCOP to uplevel our imaginative writing pieces. Our functional writing block will be a focus on instructional writing. Today we are going to be reading “Pumpkin Soup” and later completing our own pumpkin soup recipes.
Miss Aitken’s Read Write Inc. group have been reading the book “Tom Thumb” this week. Tom Thumb goes missing so today we created Missing posters to help find him! We have to include sentences that we built up in class and use our phonics knowledge to spell words. We have been taking part in our daily speed sounds lessons and have had fun using our skills to sound out nonsense words! We have been working well with our new partners each week and the quality of the written work produced is high.
We are currently organising our school trip for next month which both classes voted on ourselves. Letters about this will hopefully be in schoolbags mid next week!
