Good Morning P6s. It’s FRIDAY!!!!! And the focus is on our SPORTS WEEK GRID.

  • Also be good to see more finish off the obstacle course challenge too from this week.

Share Task: P6 Sports Week Padlet

  • A shared padlet page has been set up for the two P6 classes to share our learning. Click on the Padlet link and post photos, stories and videos. It’s also a great place to see what others have been up to.

Mr Scotland’s Daily Vlog 04/06/20

Good Morning P6s.

Fantastic launch of the new Google Meet Call yesterday. Works so well. You can click on the link in the virtual classroom or open the Google Meet tile/app.

The new virtual classroom is up with links to the same things you use in school. Dictionaries, toolkits and more. Click on the fidget spinner to find suggestions on how you can get ready for learning. There is also an online worry box.

Literacy – Writing (Character Descriptions)

  • Based on the story and legend of the Ickabog (our class novel) I would like you to create your own written character description for a creature that is roaming the Ochil hill and terrorizing young children that don’t listen to parents and spend too much time in the paddling pool (haha). You may find it helpful to draw your character out first.
  • Key here is lots and lots of description about this creature. What does it look like? Where does it live? What does it eat? How does it behave?
  • You can do in your snapshot jotter or type up on Google Classroom.

Numeracy

  • Lots of practice this week and still on the fraction of a quantity problems.
  • You should use your division strategies to help you or a calculator to help you. My main focus here is that you understand how this works even if you find the actual dividing part tricky right now.
  • Remember the TikTok help video – https://youtu.be/UaB9ol1sJkI

Art – Sonia and Robert Delaunay Inspired

  • Inspired by Sonia and Robert Delaunay’s Eiffel Tower, can you recreate the Eiffel tower picture in their style.
  • This work is Orphist style with lots of abstract shapes (like Picasso) and lots or bright colours.
  • My favourite one is from 1926 and the view is from underneath and looking up. Click here to view.
  • Examples of the Eiffel Tower series can be found here.

5-a-Day Activities (Additional but recommended)

Remember, if you need anything from me or the school, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

Today’s joke of the day is…

Why did the kid bring a ladder to school?

Because she wanted to go to high school.

Numeracy – Fractions of a Quantity (Number)

  • Another mix of fraction of a quantity problems.

  • Remember the TikTok help video – https://youtu.be/UaB9ol1sJkI

SPORTS WEEK – Obstacle Course

  • Create an obstacle course. This can be in your home or in your garden. How fast can you complete it? You can also challenge an adult or sibling to it too.
  • It should have at least 5 obstacles/stations.
  • Please remember to share learning on our class padlet page. https://padlet.com/scotland/P6sports

5-a-Day Activities (Additional but recommended)

And today’s joke of the day…

What musical instrument is found in the bathroom?

A tuba toothpaste.

Sports Day Week!

Good morning everyone,

Hope you have all been enjoying the lovely warm weather we are having and are staying safe! 🙂

Unfortunately due to recent events we have missed one of our favourite days of the year – sports day! I know many of our pupils and staff look forward to it every year, so instead we are going to have an entire sports week, and theme our PE grids around it!

The P1-2 grid is full of family fun sports day activities!

P1-P2 Sports Week.docx

Whereas the P3-4 and P5-7 grids have beat the teacher challenges with some familiar faces to compete against!

Impact on people? What’s your opinion? Watch this Newsround clip and read the article about the ‘Plastic Pollution Problem to help you write. Remember with opinions, try to use our I think _____ because____ strategy. You can do this on Google Classroom or in your Snapshot jotter.

    • Authors and Blurbs – Island Bound (Chapters 4-6)

Good Morning P6s. It’s FRIDAY!!!!! Likely to be one of the hottest days of the year so try to get outside if you can and enjoy the lovely weather. Remember sun cream and hats if you are you back gardens for a while.

Mr Scotland’s Daily Vlog 28/05/20

Good Morning P6s.

Make sure you are enjoying this weather as well as being online for learning at home. It’s all about balance. Remember to keep in touch online and let me know if you are needing anything.

Now with the weather being so good, why not use this as an opportunity to make an outside den in your garden. I’ve given you the inspiration from IKEA but you can use any old blankets and cushions to make your own wee den.

Literacy – Writing (If I were in charge for a day)

  • You are going to be writing a piece titled… “If I were in charge”. This follows on from the discussions and work we have done around democracy online. Don’t worry if you haven’t done this as I’m sure you’ll still have plenty of ideas.
  • What would be your first change and why? How would it impact people and would there be losers as well as winners? How are people feeling. Then pick two or three other key things you would change and remember to say why you would want to change things.
  • You can give me some fun answers in there as well but keep thinking about what the impact would be.
  • You can do in your snapshot jotter or type up on Google Classroom and remember your writing targets (pick one to work on)

Numeracy

  • Final mix of fraction problems have been seen on Google Classroom. I’ve moved on a little here with some addition with the same denominator. I’ll move on learning next week into fraction of numbers but a good understanding here is key.
  • Reminder that on Sumdog, I’ve set a challenge of 50 questions on ‘Adding and subtracting fractions within a whole (like denominators). Again more revision and will be useful for us moving on learning.

Art – Picasso Inspired

  • Final week on Picasso. This week keep with the straight lines and angles for your masterpiece. But this week it is a SELF PORTRAIT.
  • You could use a mirror to help you here.
  • Submitted entries can be used for your buddy training to show some of the work you have been doing.
  • Finally, if you haven’t already, watch the video again (or if you missed last week) on how you can make your own Picasso inspired art. Click here.

5-a-Day Activities (Additional but recommended)

Remember, if you need anything from me or the school, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

Today’s joke of the day is…

Why can’t Elsa from Frozen ever have a balloon?

Because she will just ”let it go… let it go…”

The Community Quiz Trail MAP REVEAL

Teachers have hidden quiz questions all over Menstrie. Look out for these posters while you are out on your walks around the community. There are 10 stations, each with three questions (one for P1-2s, P3-4’s, P5-7’s) as well as a code letter so you can decode the special word.

Remember social distancing of 2 metres and stay safe when crossing roads.

Here is a map to help you find any you have missed. Quiz Trail Map

Here’s a brief video with some of the teacher’s hiding the stations while keeping their 2m distance and taking care crossing the roads on Thursday evening.

You can write your answers down on scrap paper, on your phone or you can download and print the Quiz Trail Answer Sheet.

Good luck and enjoy.

  • We are learning to identify different French foods.
  • Watch the video and try to pick out some of the key words they use. Some are very random toppings for their pizza. Click here to view.
  • Now create your own dream pizza with at least 5 different toppings but draw and write this in French. You can draw this in your Snapshot, on paper or using tools online. You can use Google translate to help you or the Food Vocab cards I’ve attached on Google Classroom.
