Mr Scotland’s Vlog 31/03/20

Good Morning P6s. Day 2 of Health week. Loved hearing from everyone on suggestions to keep fit in the house. I’ve just finished Body Combat in the living room to I’ll share a link to some similar fitness videos for you to try ..but it is also an important day for someone in P6S.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAMERON!

Best wishes from Mr Scotland and I hope you have a fantastic day with your mum, dad and sister.

So I have read through the writing that was submitted to me online and have given feedback. Two big things for everyone is 1. Organise your ideas into paragraphs and 2. Everyone should focus on using a range of exciting sentence openers.

Marking work – as I give until Sunday and they start a fresh for the new week, I spent time on Monday going through lots and typing comments. I did comment on a few that nothing was attached/wasn’t handed in and now realise this must have panicked some people. Please do what you can and do not worry about work at home. It’s a tricky time right now and I now households are busy right now. But please let me know if you need help. We’re all learning here.

Anyway, on to today’s learning…

Literacy – Reading comprehension

  • All about Ruby’s favourite… Ed Sheeran. Click here to launch Twinkl Go. Then click log in. At the log in, enter the code KS3750. You might want to write this down on scrap paper first. When you log in, you will be asked the difficulty level of one, two or three stars. If you have been doing projects for me in class recently, select three stars. Everyone else, I’ll let you self-select your challenge.
  • If you have limited internet access today, I would like you to read a few pages of a book of your choice and become ‘Question Masters’. Make a mini quiz of 6 questions and answers in your snapshot jotter.

Numeracy

  • We are learning to use pie charts. So I’ve set part 2 of the challenge on Google Classroom based on the Textbooks we use. Some of you are finding this tricky and others easy but please drop me an e-mail if there’s any parts that are hard so I can try to help you.
  • Reminder that the graph challenge on Sumdog is live all week. Just log in to play.

Health Week – Today’s Focus Task

  • How many NOC’s can you find that start with the following letters? OLYMPICS. Miss Johnston has posted the task on Google Classroom under her section. Use this Padlet to help find the answers.
  • If you have limited internet access today (or maybe you want this extra challenge) I’d like you to make up a sporty challenge everyone could do in their own homes. You can post your suggestion below or on Google Classroom.

5-a-Day Activities (Additional but recommended)

Finally, if you haven’t joined the P6S playground Google Classroom, join it please as it is a space for fun and chat with no work.

Have a good day and remember to check your e-mails regularly too.

Today’s joke of the day is…

When you look for something, why is it always in the last place you look?

Because when you find it, you stop looking.

Mr Scotland’s Vlog 30/03/20

Good Morning P6s. Hope you had a good weekend. Now it’s a new week and there’s some fresh challenges.

It was great seeing some of you in the zoom video call on Friday for our quiz. It’s great for us to keep in touch and I’ll try and host another one this week too. Also, if you haven’t joined the P6S playground Google Classroom, join it please as it is a space for fun and chat with no work. Only about half the class are on this so far.

The week before the Easter holidays was… and still is… Health Week!

Health week is inspired this year by the Olympics, Road Safety and Nurture. The teachers have been working hard to build a range of activities to keep this important week in the Menstrie calendar going.

I’ll create a new section on Google Classroom and post lots of activities and links that can be completed in your own time. I’ll post lots at the beginning of the week but don’t panic, I’ll do a focus one each day below. You will still have a literacy and numeracy task Monday to Thursday and project on Friday will be Health Week related.

Literacy

  • 50 Word Challenge – Write a story about ‘looking through a hole in the Fence’. What do you see? It can be real or you can go a bit wild with your imagination. Click here for a link to a picture and story starter to get you going. Think back to any feedback I gave you last week. A big focus for everyone is getting that detail in by using lots of adjectives (describing words). You can write in your Snapshot jotter or type as an assignment on Google Classroom.
  • Watch this mini video on adjectives if you can before writing. There is also a mini quiz at the bottom.

Numeracy

  • We are learning to use pie charts. I’ve set a challenge on Google Classroom based on the Textbooks we use. It did need a protractor for one part so I’ve done the measuring for you so you can do the maths. This is tricky and please let me know if you are struggling.
  • Extra – I’ve set a graph challenge on Sumdog this week. Just log in to play.

Health Week – Today’s Focus Task

  • Travel around the world activities. Click here. There are lots of activities for you to complete over the week and I thought I would give you this one first. If you complete any, remember to share online or comment below.
  • If you have limited internet access, today I’d like you to make a quiz or poster on good road safety.
  • Also, there is an origami challenge on there – see if you can find it.

 5-a-Day Activities (Additional but recommended)

Have a good day and remember to check your e-mails regularly too.

Today’s joke of the day is…

Why did the student eat his homework?

Because the teacher told him it was a piece of cake!

Mr Scotland’s Vlog 27/03/30

Good Morning P6s. It’s FRIDAY!!!!! And the end of our first week using @Virtual Menstrie. Here’s some of our successes so far…

  • Home Learning spaces set up and they look good on the online class wall.
  • Pupils helping each other and setting each other challenges.
  • Pictures being sent to show what you have done.
  • Most of you have e-mailed me. If not – please do 🙂

I’d also like to give a couple of super star awards.

  • Jake – for his independent work on Duolingo to develop his language skills.
  • Ben – for his 50 word writing piece this week.

Today is also project day. Your challenge is to research some key animals at Edinburgh Zoo. Also as promised, click here for the link to today’s Kahoot challenge on animals.

STEP 1: Select an Animal

Select an animal from Edinburgh Zoo to research and make a project. The list you can pick from is…

  • Panda
  • Penguin
  • Tiger
  • Koala

STEP 2: LIVE Webcams

Follow the link below to view the animals and write what you see or hear.

  • Are the animals being fed?
  • How many animals can you see?
  • Can you see the zoo keeper?
  • Describe what the enclosure looks like.
  • What questions do you have?

https://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/webcams/panda-cam/

STEP 3: Create a project about your chosen animal.

This can be a poster, fact file or Google Classroom slide show. It could also be a video of you presenting the information. The choice is yours.

If you make a version offline, it would be great if you could e-mail me a picture of it – but don’t panic if you can’t. If you submit online, make sure you attach to the assignment and don’t just post on the class stream.

Think about bold headings, photos and illustrations, information about the animal.

Make sure you keep exercising and getting outside for your ‘once a day’. Relax too and remember these tasks come second, your health and happiness come  first. Oh…today’s joke of the day is…

Because she was stuffed.

Mr Scotland’s VLOG 24/03/20
