Naming the new school

Every pupil was given the exciting opportunity to contribute to the name of the new school.

Each pupil suggested a possible name and then each class voted on their favourite name. The pupil council from each school took this list and decided on a top three. Both pupil councils met at Kilncraigs and decided on a combined top three.

The pupil council led an assembly informing the other children of the chosen names and the voting process, which would take place to decide the children’ s final prefered name.

Claremont children voted for their final choice in their own classrooms using a variety of anonymous strategies.

St. John’s held an election-style voting day.

November In-service

During the November in service days staff at Claremont and St. John’s came together at Alloa town hall to discuss and share ideas about the forthcoming merge.

The staff worked together to plan a smooth transition for staff, pupils and parents.

Steve, from Grounds for Learning, came to talk to staff about options for the outdoor space of the new school.  This was a great opportunity for staff to work with an expert in order to work together to find ways to best utilise the fantastic outdoor experiences that will be available to the new school.

Pupil Council visit to our new school site

Claremont and St. John’s pupil councils have been working together as part of the Action Plan for the merger.

In November 2012 both pupil councils met at the Redwell Playing Fields, the site of our new school.

Claremont pupil council came to St. John’s where both pupil councils were shown plans of the site.

The children and staff then walked together down to the site where they were able to see exactly where the new school was going to be.

Both pupil councils then fed back to the rest of the children about the site of the new school.
