Netball and badminton clubs!

First badminton. Badminton is a club that is on during lunch for P6 to P7 on Mondays. We get lunch early so we can have the full time. The club is run by Miss Fraser, (she is also the schools FAB P.E teacher!) badminton is also played in courts like tennis. So sometimes Miss Fraser can split us into two groups and we can play two different games at the same time, one game on each court. Every once in a while we change games so we can practise different skills. Badminton is different to tennis because badminton players use shuttle cocks. Badminton is super fun and we get to do competitions outside of school sometimes as well. I LOVE BADMINTON

Now for netball. Netball is also at lunch. It is for P5 to P7 and Miss Fraser also runs this club. Sometimes we do training exercises before we start the big games. My favourite training exercise is when we have two lines one in front of the other facing each other. We get a ball and we start passing it diagonally but when you pass the ball you have to run to the end of your line. So when you finish both the lines are at the other side of the room. In real games you have bibs that say your positions so you know where to go. Here are some positions.

  • GA-goal attack
  • WA-wing attack
  • WD-wing defence
  • GD-goal defence
  • C- centre

When we play the big netball games we are in two teams it’s a bit like basketball but you are not allowed to bounce or move with the ball. You are only allowed to hold the ball for five seconds before you need to pass it to your team mate. Beware though, you have to stay an arm’s length away from someone that has the ball and isn’t in your team or else they will get an advantage with the penalty! I love netball so why don’t you try it out?
