Talking boxes
We have been learning about gardens and we brought in these fantastic talking boxes. We had to talk about the special things inside. There were a lot of talking boxes to hear! Here are some of the things that were inside; turtles, seeds, snail shells, lavender, footballers and goals, pea pods, minibeasts, stones, eggs, toy rabbits, rosemary and even a spider! It was amazing fun 😊
Polar Bear Visits
The boys and girls in both P1 classes are very excited to take our adopted polar bears, Oslo and Snowy, home for a visit. Because we have limited time left in our school year, the polar bears can visit each home for one night only. We realise this isn’t giving the children as much time as we would like, but hope they will be able to write a couple of sentences and draw a picture. There are also books, a subtraction game and the information we have been sent from the WWF that you can share with your child. Thank you for your support with this and we hope you have fun!

1G have named their polar bear!
After much discussion the pupils decided on three different names. Instead of a vote they decided to draw one of the three names from a hat. We are all very pleased to tell you that our polar bear is called Snowy.
Talk homework – pirates and mermaids
Talk Homework
This week we are beginning an art project run by the National Galleries Scotland and the theme for P1-3 is ‘Pirates and Mermaids’. More information about this can be found on:
https://www.nationalgalleries.org/art-and-artists/features/tesco-bank-art-competition-schools-2017
Before we begin creating our pieces of art, we will be looking at pictures, reading stories, describing and writing about pirates and mermaids. On Thursday we will be writing an imaginative story about a pirate and/or a mermaid.
To help your child prepare for their writing, please discuss some ideas with him/her. Questions could include:
- What does your character (mermaid or pirate) look like? What does he/she wear?
- Where does your character live? What can they see, hear, smell, taste and touch?
- What does your character like to do?
- Do they have any friends?
Thank you for your support with this. We look forward to showing off our art on the class blog soon!
