Virtual Trip No.1 – Part 1 – Preparation – Hot

We don’t know about you, but Miss Deans and Mr Reid are fed up of staying indoors and want to organise a trip!

Over the next two weeks, Miss Deans and Mr Reid will be taking you on two different virtual trips. We want to give you the full experience of our usual school trips, which means exciting places full of interesting activities.

Welcome to Part 1 of our virtual trip to Edinburgh Zoo!

Part 1 will focus on getting ready for the big trip. So what are you waiting for? Click on the Sway below and let’s get going!

Mr Reid’s Music Journey – Term 4

Hello all!

Today’s post is very different and will not focus on my music journey. Instead, we are going to be highlighting the music journey of a family in Methlick School – Harry and Emily.

They both really enjoy their music and even have their own band called The Bubble Rats.

You can listen to two of their songs by clicking on the following link – https://thebubblerats.bandcamp.com/

Emily wrote and sang all the lyrics herself to the song “Me to you” – Harry sings the backing vocals on “The Bubble Rat Shuffle”. All the voices you will hear are theirs and their dad plays all the instruments.

If you have been playing any music during your Home Learning, we would love to hear about it! Let us know in the comments.

Health and Wellbeing – Methlick’s Virtual Gallery – Week 2 – Hot

Good morning everyone!

Last week we took a virtual tour of Aberdeen Art Gallery – https://bit.ly/2AR37X5

Let’s create Methlick’s Art Gallery!

Now it is time for you to create your own piece of art. We would like for you to be as creative as possible. Use any medium you wish – it could be a sculpture, painting, drawing or anything else you can think of. Once your masterpiece is finished, complete a short biography for it. This should include information about the artist (you), what you have used to create your piece and the meaning behind your work. Don’t forget to give it a title too!

Click on the Sway below to see everything you will need to complete this activity. An example has also been provided. Good luck and remember to share your work with your class teacher.

Good morning everyone!

Let’s take a virtual tour of Aberdeen Art Gallery – https://bit.ly/2AR37X5

With a duration of 2h30 minutes, we highly recommend that you view the tour throughout the week. If you prefer, focus on a specific gallery (Sculpture Court, Collecting Art etc).

Throughout week 1, we are going to  focus on identifying our favourite piece of art within the gallery, sharing our thoughts/opinions and researching the artist.

Feel-Good Friday – Fun with Fruit and Veg

For the final day of our Health Fortnight, I thought we could have a bit of fun.  You know how adults always tell you, “Don’t play with your food”?  Well, now’s your chance!

Today’s Feel-Good activity combines creativity with imagination AND healthy food.  Have you guessed what it is yet?

Your challenge is to make a fabulous creature using only fruit and vegetables.

Have a look!

Do remember to ask for an adult’s permission before taking any food to do this activity,  and make sure that you are being supervised if you are using any sharp kitchen utensils.

If you would like to email me photos, I can make a Sway to show everyone what you have created.  Have fun!

Health and Wellbeing – Yoga

Hello everyone,

Yoga is great for the body and mind. Physically, it can improve our flexibility, strength and coordination. In addition, our concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation can improve.

More than one million children do yoga, mindfulness and relaxation with Cosmic Kids – https://www.cosmickids.com/about/

Why not try some activities and let us know in the comments how you get on! Here is a direct link to all the activities provided by Cosmic Kids – https://www.cosmickids.com/category/watch/

Make a Healthy (Home) Packed Lunch

Hopefully you have all been helping out at home making food to eat during lockdown and you have realised that it’s important to eat well to keep you healthy. We know shopping for food has been more challenging during this time and understand that you may not have access to foods you would normally have so for the final task be as creative as possible and imagine what you would love to have.

Task 1 – Learn more about the Eatwell plate.

Although we all like a sweet treat or two at times we know this is not what we should eat every day. Have a look at the NHS information found here which shows what we should eat. You do not need to achieve this balance with every meal, but try to get the balance right over a day or even a week.

The Eatwell Guide

Task 1 – Read the information on the website above and answer the questions in the Sway.

Task 2 – Using the information from above can you design a HEALTHY packed lunch and include a portion of food from each food group? I have made one in this Sway. Have I managed to include food from each food group?

Task 3 – Can you design an imaginary sandwich? This could be your favourite sandwich or a totally made up one. For example Marshmallows and chocolate spread. (Healthy or unhealthy? Do you think your sandwich is healthy or unhealthy? Would you eat it?)
