Ellie’s book.

Chapter 1

Hi, my names Millie Hetford I am 11 years old and I live with my Nan and Granda because my mum and dad died in a car crash 8 years ago.My Nan is a total animal lover. She has 4 dogs, 8 cats, 3 hampsters, 2 rabbits and 1 guinea pig. Oh yes and she also has 1 jet black beautiful pony. Today i’m going to tell you my story how I met Mystery. It was a crisp frosty still morning we were eating breakfast at the table when Pebbles my dog came up and nudged my leg. He whined and wiped his head against me. I laid my hand on his silky, smooth, golden, sweet head; he turned and laid his heavy paw on my knee.Nan asked if I could take Pebbles and Cakes out for a walk and she would take Storm and Chanser out later. Chanser rolled over and opened his tired eyes at this; he looked at Nan as if saying no way then simply dozed off again. Later that afternoon,I took Pebbles silk red lead and Cakes small thin pink lead. I clicked them onto the 2 hyper dogs collars and opened the door.A strong cool gust of wind blew onto my face.I felt my cheeks crinkle up with the  chilling wind. I hauled on my old brown boots and clumped out of the door onto the thin crispy frost.

Chapter 2

I opened the creaky rusty garden gate and bumped down the steps and started walking up the muddy deep hard frosty road up to the woods. I heard whistling and singing all around me as I entered the loamy dark wood. I heard a bustle and a rustle coming from the trees. Pebbles barked strongly and pulled on the lead. I tugged him back as a tiny baby black bird hopped out of the trees. Cakes caught its eye and swiped at it. The tiny bird gazed into my eyes, turned its head and fluttered away. Some strange feeling made me want to follow the little birdie up the stone hard path. I turned away and started clumping back down the mud path towards the small stone cottage.

Chapter 3

That night I lay in bed with Pebbles snoring quietly at my feet. I closed my eyes and dreamt that I followed the sweet wee bird and came to a huge grassy meadow with all animals free to roam no hunters to kill them no fear for them to have. But something stood out right in the middle was something. Something black, with white fur rolling down his head, white socks sprawling down his legs. I turned to him started running towards him. Wet grass sticking to my boots, insects getting tangled in my hair as I sprinted towards him. I suddenly halted right before his beautiful head. I held out my hand to touch him but he turned and galloped away leaving me behind spurted in mud and heart broken. I suddenly woke and I felt a cold shiver run down my spine. Pebbles knew there was something wrong he opened his sweet hazel deep eyes, stretched his long thin silver body and came up to me. He rubbed his head into my pillow and flopped down beside me, we both snoozed and snoozed. I woke up at 7 Nan and Granda were still  asleep, Pebbles scratched at the door wanting his breakfast. I poured out my coco pops still thinking about the strange dream I had last night.

Chapter 4

I walked to school looking into peoples gardens as I skipped by. Some gardens were filled with gorgeous flowers, daisies and still stone statues. Some gardens were over grown, wild flowers and weeds grew anywhere there was space. Some gardens were high walled so I could not see in but I could hear fountains and rivers flowing and trees waving in the cooling breeze. I searched into the last garden just before the school gates. It was a big field around the back of the house. There stood a small herd of horses, wind blowing in their manes, their tails swishing side to side. Then one horse pure black reared and started galloping to the top of the field. I ringing sound filled my ear and I turned to see everyone pushing and shoving to get into line first. Kate came bouncing up to me, her flowing blonde hair waving in the breeze. She pulled me into line and whispered about the girl in front we both giggled. When we did maths I couldn’t  think  about anything else other than the herd of horses up on the hill earlier. “MILLY, PAY ATTENTION!!!!” Screamed miss Doily, everyone stared. Miss Doily was our teacher, she was always going on about how all this school work help us when we are older so we should pay attention. But most people found it just plain boring! At break I told Kate all about the horses I saw and the blackbird, The dream. Kate has horses so she found it very interesting.

Chapter 5

At hometime Nan was waiting with Pebbles and Storm. I ran up to them, Pebbles jumped up on me. I took his lead and walked home with Nan. I decided to take Pebbles for a quick walk through the woods and Nan took Storm home. I let Pebbles off the lead and he bounced playfully about. His silver coat swaying in the air. He rolled about in the leaves, leaving a big patch of nothing. He  came over to me covered in leaves, sat down and tilted his head innocently. I giggled and hugged him tight. All of a sudden Pebbles scrambled out of my arms and down the big hill where the little blackbird flew across.  I started thundering after him. I squinted my eyes as I looked down the hill. Pebbles was gone.I fell t0 the floor and started pouring my heart out sobbing and weeping. I slowly got up and a silver dot caught my eye. I was whizzing towards me. ” PEBBLES!!!!” I yelled crying with happines.  Then when Pebbles got half way across he stopped and turned. He sat there and waited for about 3 minutes. Then I saw a stunning figure cantering down towards Pebbles. My hard started beating so hard I could hear it. I stood there staring in shock and happiness. Pebbles started sprinting towards me again with the beautiful stunning horse galloping along side him.

Chapter 6

I turned to see Nan hiking up the hill behind me. She took my arm and puffed ” we were worried about you”. I remained silent. She saw what I was seeing and gasped. ” Its beautiful” she whispered. Pebbles and the horse stopped before us, the stunning stallion towering over me and Nan. I felt its warm breath blowing against me. Nan slowly pulled out a head collar and gently slipped it onto his head. I quietly clipped the lead rope on and started walking the stunning horse down the track. He let us do it simply like he was tamed not wild. Pebbles trotted beside his mighty clopping hoofs. Nan ran her hand down his pure black silky coat as he moved down the track. Nan and Granda had a spare stable from when their horse Blue passed away. I slowly walked the horse into Blue’s old stable and filled his water bucket and gave him a handful of hay. I quietly closed the stable door behind his mighty head and headed back to the cottage.

Chapter 7

That night I listened and watched carefully until I was sure Nan and Granda were asleep. I pulled on some old jodphurs and snuck down the stairs past Chanser. He opened one eye, I froze. Then he closed it again. I hauled on my coat and quietly opened the front door. I opened the barn door. There he was standing in his stable, I ran up to him. I felt heavy breathing as I stroked his short silky black coat. He started digging his hoof into the straw as if asking me to get on him. I thought about this then shook my head “no way”. The last time I rid was when my mum was a top class rider. I closed the stable door and shut down the barn. I crept back to bed, kissed Pebbles and drifted off. That morning I was up at 7 again it was Saturday so I was thinking about going to see the horse. I put on some jodphurs and pulled on an old top. I walked downstairs into the kitchen with Pebbles close behind. I poured out my cereal and ate it quickly. I went into Nans old cupboard, there were cobwebs and spiders hanging down I shuffled in. There was a shelf at the very back of the cupboard I could feel webs sticking to me and flies clinging onto my hair. It was very dark in there so I had to feel my way down the cupboard. Finally I felt something round I grabbed it and started walking back out of the cupboard. I put my old riding hat on. I opened the barn door “hello boy I said, he whinnied. I gave him some hay took his water bucket and filled it. As he drank the cool wet cold water I got a chance to see all of him. ” I’ll call you Mystery because you are a mystery aren’ t you boy” I laughed and hugged him tight.

Chapter 8

I went upstairs to where we kept the hay in the barn. I ran behind the hay bale and pulled a key out of my pocket. A small oak door stood in front of me. Slowly I put the key in and turned the latch. It opened. I entered; the smell of tack filled my nostrils. At the very back was a chest open. I crept over to it, it was half open. I looked in and there was a saddle and bridle unused. My mum had bought it before she died. I took them out and closed the chest. I locked the door as I left and ran back down the stairs. I carefully hung the saddle on the stable door and went in. He was standing there facing me. Quickly I swung the reins over his head and slipped the bridle on. He stood there looking at me. I fetched the saddle, gently laid the numnah on and slid the saddle on. He didn’t really like it when I tightened up the girth but he made no fuss.

Chapter 9

I walked him out of the stable and mounted onto him. I squeezed my knee’s and all of a sudden he flew out into the wind. I closed my eyes and when I opened them all I could see was white. I reached out my hand. It was like candyfloss. ” clouds” I whispered. All of a sudden he dropped down the the ground. As we went down I felt the wind blowing in my face. It was so cold, it hurt. We hit the ground and I felt safe again as Mystery galloped towards the woods. I saw the school as I looked behind. We were in the field that I saw when I was walking to school. Mystery stopped running forward, turned and started running up the field.

Chapter 10

We finally got to the top. There were the herd, Mystery tried to join the herd but they reared and bared their teeth at him.It was me on his back, they were wild and didn’t like humans. The big black horse came to the front; I think it sent a message or something to Mystery. Something like ” Let go of the girl and join our herd or stay with her and NEVER be wild again”. I was ready to be left when Mystery turned and galloped back towards our cottage. ” He chose to be with me”, I thought as we galloped into the wood. I smiled happier than ever. We came to a halt at the cottage. I dismounted and met Nan at the door, she was beaming, ” your just like your mum” she said gently. I took Mystery into the stable and hugged him tightly. I was getting ready for bed when I thought about the ride how we were in the clouds… how we were…. flying. I said goodnight to Nan and Granda and slipped quietly up to bed.

Chapter 11

Late that night I got out of bed and looked out my window. All I could see was the barn, he was waiting for me I had a feeling. I ran downstairs still in pyjamas. Opened the door and bolted to the barn. I turned and saw Nan at the window smiling down at me. As I entered the barn the smell of hay filled my nose and mouth. I fetched the tack and slipped it onto him.I walked him out into the woods then hopped on. Instantly we were high up in the air. As we flew about I felt the clouds sweep past us. I got him into a canter then a gallop. The cool breeze smacking my face and freezing my cheeks. My hands were frozen and stiff. I tried to move my fingers but it hurt. My toes were cold because of the wind but it was the best moment of my life. It all past too quickly, I could see the sun rising. Slowly I pulled on the reins. He started going down. He hit the ground hard and we started galloping towards the woods. We were going back our normal route when a crack of lightning filled the sky. Suddenly Mystery went driving backwards as if being sucked up into the sky. I screamed, Mystery was flying backwards.

Chapter 12

We went drifting up into this strange portal. I closed my eyes. When I woke I was in the middle of a field. Pink long grass towering over me, tall blue palm tree’s jumped up and down instead of side to side. I was still on Mystery, I gave him a sweet nudge and he immediately stood up and started walking. ” Where are we?” I said out loud. ” Its called horse planet” came a high pitched voice behind me. A small plump pinky bluey creature stood behind me. He didn’t look too pleased ” its actually horses only can’t you read little girl?” he said stubbornly. Pointing to a sign reading NO HUMANS ONLY HORSES ALLOWED in scrappy scribbly handwriting. At this Mystery nodded his head at the creature saying ” its okay shes with me”. ” Oh i’m sorry welcome to horse planet where all horses are free from hunters its a pleasure to have you” screeched the creature glumly with a fake smile on his face. Later he showed us to this old barn. “Night” he mumbled.

Chapter 13

In the morning I woke and shook Mystery awake. “Mystery what is this place?” “Mystery come on lets go home?” Mystery woke up restlessly and gave me a thought “we cant leave now we’re trapped here, we now stay here”. At breakfast I hardly ate anything it was things like hay grass horse nuts. I took a hand full of polo’s and went outside. Mystery came out like 20 minutes later. I got on Mystery and nudged him. We started walking; I gently squeezed my knees, nothing. “I cant fly its forbidden here” Mystery sent me. so we galloped speedily down the end of the long grassy field. I dismounted and sat on the pink grass crushing beetles and flattening the grass. I cupped my hand over my face and started crying ” I HATE THIS STUPID PLACE” I yelled out. ” LET ME LEAVE”. That night around 10 PM, I woke up strangly Mystery was lying beside me fast asleep. I looked up into the darkness and saw a ghostly figure slither across the room, the shape of a horse but with huge wings spurting out from its back. I jolted out of bed and switched on the light but it was gone.

chapter 14

Early that morning when Mystery was at breakfast I walked over to the computer on the screen I typed in PEAGUSES. It came up with horses with I clicked on it a blue page came onto the screen that said. PEAGUSES ARE HORSES WITH WINGS. THEY ARE GHOSTLY SHADOWS THAT ONLY APPEAR IN THE NIGHT. PEOPLE SAY THAT HUGE WINGS CAME RISING OUT OF THEIR BACKS. PEAGUSES ARE HORSE ANGELS, THEY COME WHEN PEOPLE NEED HELP OR SUPPORT. YOU WILL BE LUCKY TO SEE ONE AND IF YOU DO EXPECT ANOTHER VISIT. “It came to help” I hissed. Just then Mystery came strolling in, he neighed and plodded upstairs. I went outside, walked down the field and into the dark old wood at the bottom. As I entered I got a terrible scare as an owl hotted and fluttered out of the tree’s past me. I jogged and jogged until I got to the end of the woods. There standing tall and clear was a stone cave with golden bolts jutted around it. I the it was all dark and loamy. I saw a door with light escaping from the bottom of it. I opened it and turned to see something it said “ah I have been expecting you”.

Chapter 15

I turned around and saw a huge stunning white horse ,with massive wings coming from his back. He trotted over to me; “I will help” he said to me and nudged me in the shoulder. The room he was in was a beautiful wood room,a fireplace stood proud burning away at the back. A fur carpet sprawled across the room and perfect pictures hung on the high walls. We left the cosy warm room and started trotting down and out of the cave. He sniffed the air like he had never been out before. I hopped up onto him. He bolted up into the air, flapping his almighty wings.”Your not allowed to fly,but its not like they can take my wings away, they only take the poor other horses power to fly away ha-ha”! He sang as we drifted through the air. I sucked in the cooling air as we went along and sniffed and breathed out heavily. We were gliding twisting and turning for about 40 minutes when finaly he landed down at this huge spinning portal. He looked back and pointed to a huge metal fence “thats why your not allowed  to fly ,you could fly over there and escape !” he whispered to me “now hurry child run be free”.”My friend is back there Mystery I wont go without him” I screamed before hanging onto the bar saving myself getting sucked away.”Go be free now or stay with your friend and stay here for the rest of your lifetime” grumbled the peagus.”I wont leave Mystery” I said. He picked me up and flew me over the fence. There he dropped me and left flapping back into the wood.

Chapter 16

I arrived back at the barn late; Mystery stood up and stomped past me, his head really low. ” We are going to jail tommorow, we will be left there until we stave”. Mystery sent me. ” Its because you tried to escape the peagus is an undercover spy”. ” NO NO NO NO NO I TRUSTED HIM THAT THAT UGLY OLD CHEATER” I yelled. I stormed to bed and slowly fell asleep. I woke up late that morning. I was awoke by a big heavy strong horse; he dragged me to a high brick walled room. Mystery was already there. It was cold brick walls, hard stiff stone flooring. No bed and one stinky old green toilet. It was open at the top no roof. Mystery and I just spoke about our friendship, about how we don’t deserve this. It was dark that night and I fell asleep early because it had been a long tiresome day. The next morning I woke up around 10 AM I started sobbing about how I will never see nan and granda again. I heard my tummy rumbling and gurgling. I needed the toilet despratly but didn’t even want to think about the mouldy toilet sitting in the corner. Mystery woke up and came over to me; he said it would all be fine. At least we are together, I hugged him tightly and my tear rolled down my cheeks and soaked into Mystery’s soft velvety fur. ” Its my entire fault, its my entire fault, MINE MY FAULT” I sobbed. That night I sat there looking into the stars. I sat there gazing before my tummy started rumbling and gurgling again, I laid on my side and drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 17

In the morning me and Mystery were starving, we had given up all hope. Then I remembered my mothers last words to me ” whatever happens, dont give up”. I reached into my pocket and grabbed the necklace tightly in my palm. I jumped up onto Mystery and squeezed the necklace tightly in my hand. I closed my eyes and held my breath ” dont give up keep going” I whispered. All of a sudden Mystery went zooming up into the air. I beamed as we drifted through the cooling breeze. The wind smacking my face. As we slowly made our way out of the hotel I dreamt about my mum, her racing in the wind, her hair blowing all over the place my dad at the side cheering her on, me in his arms. I wiped a tear away from my eye. I lowered Mystery down to the huge portal before us. I could feel us getting sucked in slowly, slowly.

Chapter 18

I opened my eyes to find us outside Nan and Granda’s cottage. I took Mystery back to his stable, gave him cool fresh water and made sure he had plenty of hay! As I walked into the cottage Nan and granda came bolting down the stairs. “Where were you , we were worried sick” Nan gasped.”Oh just a long hack” I chuckled.
