Spelling: Measure Vocabulary

This week’s spelling is linked to our maths.  We are learning how to spell some tricky measure vocabulary using a range of strategies.

First we built our words using cards with chunks of the words on them.

For example:

milli – li – tre

centi – me – tre

w – eight

Then we thought of some mnemonics to help us spell some of the tricky chunks.

For example:

eight = everyone is going home today

eight = everyone in gryffindor hates turtles

tre = tree minus an e

We even made a mnemonic to help with a whole word:

length = Len, go to home
