Remembrance Day

Today the school gathered in the garden to mark Remembrance Day. P4-7 lead proceedings. They read out an explanation of what, why and how we mark Remembrance Day. Some members of the class also read John Macrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields”.

Before the two minute silence at 11am we added the poppies we made yesterday to a wreath stretching around a tree in the centre of the school garden.

Our School’s 140th Birthday

On Thursday we celebrated the school’s 140th birthday with a “through the ages” themed party. The children, who came dressed up as someone from a decade in the school’s history, were joined by family, friends and members of the community.

The primary 4-7 class, who have been studying the Victorians, acted out four scenes depicting what life would have been like for a Victorian child. They also sang a selection of songs from Sweeney Todd.

The whole school played a selection of Victorian party games including charades and pass the slipper. Mr Salter, a local traditional musician, came and played while the children enjoyed further party games.

Of course there was a cake and the candles were blown out by the oldest and youngest pupils.

Gardening Day

Here are some pictures from this Saturday’s (20-8-16) gardening day. We had so much fun!  We cleared the garden, painted our new outdoor stage, picked apples, painted our planters, moved our raised beds, dug a patch for our wildflower garden and started on our new den. Phew!

We are really excited about making improvements to the school grounds and using them for learning as much as possible. Thank you to everyone who came to support our school. We couldn’t have done it without you.

There are many educational benefits to using outdoor space for learning. If you’re interested in learning more have a read of this article from Education Scotland
