Kids’ Lit Quiz 2016

On Friday Primary 6&7 attended the NE Scotland heat of the Kids’ Lit Quiz.  The Kids’ Lit Quiz is an annual literature quiz for students aged 10 – 13 years. Quizzes are held in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom and USA.

In our heat we were one of only 3 primary school teams. The other 14 teams were all made up of first and second year pupils. Our pupils did extremely well, and two of our pupils who came as spectators, managed to beat all the teachers in the room to win extra prizes.

Another highlight was to meet several authors, and have them sign our books.

Well done everyone!

Our School’s 140th Birthday

On Thursday we celebrated the school’s 140th birthday with a “through the ages” themed party. The children, who came dressed up as someone from a decade in the school’s history, were joined by family, friends and members of the community.

The primary 4-7 class, who have been studying the Victorians, acted out four scenes depicting what life would have been like for a Victorian child. They also sang a selection of songs from Sweeney Todd.

The whole school played a selection of Victorian party games including charades and pass the slipper. Mr Salter, a local traditional musician, came and played while the children enjoyed further party games.

Of course there was a cake and the candles were blown out by the oldest and youngest pupils.

Green Screen

One of our priorities at Logie Durno is to make best use of technology in order to improve learning and teaching.

As part of our work on the Victorian era P4-7 have been learning about the plight of children who were forced to work. Here is the class using a home made green screen to script and film news bulletins. In this way they were able to demonstrate what they had learned in an engaging and creative way.

Oldmeldrum Numeracy Challenge

At the end of September four of our P6 & 7 pupils took part in the Oldmeldrum cluster Numeracy Challenge. They competed in a range of mathematical activities, including making a poster on the theme of “Multiples, Factors and Primes”. All four pupils did a fantastic job and made their school proud.
