In session 2019-2020 we expect the school roll to be around 930 and it is forecast that the roll will continue to rise in the future.
Since the Academy opened there have been major upgrades to all areas of the school. Home Economics, Science, Music and P.E. departments and a new performance/social area/canteen extension opened during session 2008/2009. An extension to the Technical and Art Departments was completed in November 2011 and the most major extension opened in 2015 with new social areas, a new gym hall, maths, music and ASfL classrooms. Fourteen well equipped temporary classrooms are also currently in place.
The Art and Design, Home Economics and Technical teaching areas and the Support for Learning Department are on the ground floor.
Drama occupies a well equipped drama studio. Music is well equipped and comprises of classrooms and four music practice rooms for instrumental instruction.
The Academy is WiFi enabled and has a bank of laptops and portable devices that enhance facilities.
The spacious library is well stocked with printed resources and Internet facilities. The library is very well served by professional librarians who are always available to give assistance. The network of 20 computers is available for pupils and staff use when not being used as a teaching resource. Pupils are encouraged to use the library at all times including lunchtimes.
The Canteen, with two serving areas, is open in the morning before school starts for a breakfast service and during morning interval and at lunchtimes. It is always very popular with pupils and staff alike. A Cashless Catering system operates in the canteen and this has proved very successful.
Physical Education occupies two games halls and gym for indoor activities and theory lessons. The new flood-lit, 3G astro turf pitch opened during October 2016. There are also very large playing fields adjacent to the school of which the department makes full use throughout the year. A superb dance / fitness area with gym facilities also exists.
The school office and reception is situated at the main entrance.
Parents are invited to view the facilities and accommodation of the school at various times during the school year.
