For the past month Mrs Barclay’s P6 class have been going to Balhousie Care Home for an intergenerational project with the residents there.
This is the third year of the partnership between Gordon Primary and Balhousie.
Working together the P6s and some of the residents worked together to create canvas artwork which will be hung in the four wings of the care home.
Pupils and residents have enjoyed working together and building up friendships.
Next Friday Balhousie is holding an open day, where the canvases will be on display.
Gordon Primary walking group have enjoyed the good weather, and looking at changes in the trees in and around the school.
The whole of Gordon Primary walked from school to Battlehill and around the hill for the third year running on Friday 6th May.
Primary 7SC led the way. The school stopped for a rest and snack at the shelter in the woods, before continuing on their walk. While there they had a chance to look at some of the young trees they had planted two years previously which are now growing healthily into young saplings and were just coming into leaf.
Staff and pupils agreed that it was good to do a whole school activity together.
Recently the nursery have been to Deans Shortbread Factory in Huntly and have been learning about how shortbread is made in the factory.
They walked all the way to deans and back and had to wear orange vests for safety. They got their photo taken with Shorty the piper of Deans ( Deans mascot). They really enjoyed their trip and learnt a lot about how shortbread is made.
On Sunday 8th of November the community of Huntly gathered together to remember the men that sacrificed themselves in all of the wars.
To get the Primary ones involved, the primary sevens and ones walked to war memorial to find out more about it. Mrs McIntosh had brought along some photos to show us about why and how the memorial was built. She told us that they made the memorial in 1922 and finished in 1923. Hundreds of people came to see it being revealed to the public. Names sometimes still get added to it. It was very interesting. Everyone enjoyed it and showed respect. Two of the Primary ones from Miss Gilchrist’s class laid some wreaths that they had made. The whole school also did a two minute silence at 11:00 to show respect for all the soldiers who had fought.
