Fairtrade Fortnight.

Fairtrade Fortnight is well underway and pupils are enjoying some of the activities that have been organised by the global group.

Fairtrade Fortnight is a two week period stretching from the 29th of February to the 13th of March. It is to raise awareness for farmers in developing countries who do not get fair pay.

Because we are a Fairtrade school we decided to help and show our support to these farmers. We set up a breakfast snack table at break and we sold bananas and milk for 30p. We also set up a word treasure hunt for all pupils at Gordon Primary to have fun with.

13 letters are hidden around the school. Pupils should collect all the letters and unjumble them to make a word related to Fairtrade.

Global Group

The Global Group has been busy meeting fortnightly, making preparations for Fairtrade Fortnight.

Some group representatives are preparing a Powerpoint reminding pupils what Fairtrade is about, and why it is important that we support farmers and make sure they get a fair price for their goods. They will show their powerpoint at assembly. The group is also planning a “Fruity Wednesday”  providing Fairtrade Fruit eat at morning break on each Wednesday of the Fair-trade Fortnight.

They are also planning a Fairtrade treasure Hunt.

The Global Group

As the schools Fairtrade Council we have decided that we could help a wider range of people and animals that need us. Therefore we are now called the Global Group.

The Fairtrade shop Elternatives have requested that people should collect post stamps, so we decided to help. We have already put a letter out to parents and carers, your donations so far have meant that we have collected an entire box full of stamps that have been given to Elternatives, but more are needed.

You can help by collecting stamps and putting them in a box outside the head teachers office. All stamps will go to Elternatives and will get sent away. They are sending them on to Shared Earth, who will be sending the money from the stamps to Nepal.

We appreciate the donations so far and please keep them coming! Thank you!
