The Global Group has been busy meeting fortnightly, making preparations for Fairtrade Fortnight.
Some group representatives are preparing a Powerpoint reminding pupils what Fairtrade is about, and why it is important that we support farmers and make sure they get a fair price for their goods. They will show their powerpoint at assembly. The group is also planning a “Fruity Wednesday” providing Fairtrade Fruit eat at morning break on each Wednesday of the Fair-trade Fortnight.
They are also planning a Fairtrade treasure Hunt.
Mrs Fitzpatrick’s Primary 4 class were invited to join in a puppet making workshop. Storyteller Ben Macfadyen, who has been working with Deveron Arts, has created a story about the White Wood which was planted in the Bin Forest to commemorate peace. The story, set 300 years in the future, when the oak trees in the wood will reach maturity, tells the story of how the WhiteWood came to be.
He came into school to work with the primary 4’s, making shadow puppets from cardboard. puppets included a great deer, a fox and a rabbit. Pupils were very interested to see how to create a shadow puppet performance using torches.
Musician Omar Afif, from Morocco, worked with a group of the pupils creating percussion music to accompany the performance. The P4’s presented their puppet show the following day to a group of S3 pupils in the secondary school.
Gordon Primary School supported the British Heart Foundation by dressing in red on Thursday 9th Feb.
Pupils and staff took the opportunity to wear their bright clothes, and contributed towards a collection in aid of BHF. A marvellous total of £448 was collected!
