Right of the Week

Tuesday  6th May 2025

Right of the Week :

Article 28: You have the right to a good quality education. You should be encouraged to go to school to the highest level you can.

Article 29:  Your education should help you develop your talents and abilities. It should also help you learn to live peacefully, protect the environment and respect other people.

Pupils in the Rights Respecters made mind-maps of their dream jobs, the skills they will need to do that job, and things they do at school which help them to develop that skill. Some of these were shared at assembly like Cara, who said that the Creative Area in Rm 2 helps her to develop her creativity which she will need to become a florist! Lily said that helping children in the playground is developing her skills in looking after people which will help when she works in her dream job – babysitting!

Rights Respecters – Playground Leaders

Article 31 Every child has the right to rest, relax, play and to take part in cultural and creative activities.

The Rights Respecting committee have been discussing how to make play better in the playground. They surveyed pupils to find out what their favourite games were. The Respecters will take turns to be Playground Games Leaders. Their role will be to help Miss Ella take equipment out of the shed, organise games, and help to make sure everyone knows game rules. The group are excited to build their social intelligence meta-skills.

Rights Respecters Update

Following our last post, we are pleased to announce that we have received the Bronze Rights Respecting Schools Award! 🥉 This means that we have been learning about the rights children have and how we use our rights in school. The next step is to work from our Silver action plan.

Today, Wednesday 26th February, we held an assembly for the whole school where we spoke about the ABCDE of rights, our school charter and all of the other work we have been putting in to make sure the pupils of Braemar School have their rights respected. 🤝

Article 13

The Respecters have been learning about Article 13 – You have the right to an opinion and for it to be listened to and taken seriously.

We now have a “Compliments, Complaints and Concerns” box, guarded by our Rights Respecting mascot “Tell me about it, Annie”. At any time pupils can add a compliment, complaint or concern to the box. The Respecters and Miss Florence check the box regularly and will be able to help out!

We discussed and wrote down some examples of how we can share our thoughts and opinions in school…

We are also working hard to gain our Bronze Award for Rights Respecting Schools. We are planning an assembly to remind everyone in our school about their rights. Watch this space for updates on the award!
