Rights Respecters Update

Following our last post, we are pleased to announce that we have received the Bronze Rights Respecting Schools Award! 🥉 This means that we have been learning about the rights children have and how we use our rights in school. The next step is to work from our Silver action plan.

Today, Wednesday 26th February, we held an assembly for the whole school where we spoke about the ABCDE of rights, our school charter and all of the other work we have been putting in to make sure the pupils of Braemar School have their rights respected. 🤝

Healthy Heroes News

The Healthy Heroes Committee have been investigating the kinds of snacks that children in both classes bring to school each day. This came from children’s own comments on their wellbeing webs that they felt they needed to eat more fruit and vegetables. They found that lots of children bring crisps or sweets every day for their morning snack.

They have decided to reintroduce ‘Fruity Friday’ starting this week, so children are encouraged to bring fruit or a healthy snack each Friday. The aim is to support children to make healthy choices. We will let you know how it goes.🥝🍍🥭🍎🍌🍊🍉🍏🍐

Pupil Council News

This week we were busy planning for World Book Day, Thursday 6th March. The children have decided to organise a ‘What’s your favourite book?‘ survey, paired reading across the school, opportunities to make a mini book and bookmark and a ‘Design a new cover for your fave bookcompetition. Book tokens will be sent home later this week.

We also started preparing for our end of term Talent Show. We can’t wait to see what people sign up to do!

***Update***

Here is the result of the favourite book survey, along with a display of the books people voted for. Thanks to everyone who took part and to the Pupil Council for organising the day.

Pupil Council News

This week the Pupil Council had an email from the Balmoral Team who are raising money for an MND charity. They are happy to support a sponsored event at Braemar School, organised by the pupils. So far the group have come up with a sponsored run/walk at the playpark. Watch this space for more information soon.

We also started work on a community project, gathering ideas for the Clunie Meadow project. (BCL) Hopefully our ideas will be shared at the planned community engagement meeting .

We also collated the information from the whole school playground audit we carried out on Valentines day. Pupil Council sorted and organised all of the ideas and suggestions for improvements to our outdoor spaces. We are going to start work on this later this term.

Finally, they carried out a survey of pupils, to help decide on a fun event they’d like to organise – either a Talent Show or a Teddy Show. The majority opted for a Talent Show, but we decided that we can include teddies at the fun day in the playpark next term.

Article 13

The Respecters have been learning about Article 13 – You have the right to an opinion and for it to be listened to and taken seriously.

We now have a “Compliments, Complaints and Concerns” box, guarded by our Rights Respecting mascot “Tell me about it, Annie”. At any time pupils can add a compliment, complaint or concern to the box. The Respecters and Miss Florence check the box regularly and will be able to help out!

We discussed and wrote down some examples of how we can share our thoughts and opinions in school…

We are also working hard to gain our Bronze Award for Rights Respecting Schools. We are planning an assembly to remind everyone in our school about their rights. Watch this space for updates on the award!
