{"id":78,"date":"2019-02-08T12:23:40","date_gmt":"2019-02-08T12:23:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/as\/aberdeenshireeps\/?page_id=78"},"modified":"2023-01-23T14:03:41","modified_gmt":"2023-01-23T14:03:41","slug":"schools-and-other-agencies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/as\/aberdeenshireeps\/schools-and-other-agencies\/","title":{"rendered":"Schools, ELCCS and other agencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Educational Psychology Service is part of Aberdeenshire Council Education and Children&#8217;s Services.\u00a0 Every school has a named Educational Psychologist who works in collaboration with school <span style=\"font-family: Arial,Arial;font-size: medium\">staff, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">parents and other professionals to help children and young people <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Arial;font-size: medium\">achieve their full potential. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Information about the service<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>What do Educational Psychologists do?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Educational Psychologists <span style=\"font-size: medium\">use psychology to help improve wellbeing and learning for all children and young people, as well as those with additional support <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Arial;font-size: medium\">needs. Educational Psychologists have skills in problem analysis and solution-focused frameworks. They also have an understanding of: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Child development and children in social contexts<\/li>\n<li>Potential barriers to learning<\/li>\n<li>School systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Professional Consultation and support<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>When there are concerns about a child\u2019s wellbeing or learning, the appointed co-ordinator in a school (normally a member of the School Leadership Team) will arrange for a professional Consultation with the members of staff who raised the concern. Other agencies can make contact directly with the Educational Psychology Service.\u00a0 This is a professional support for school staff and not about named pupils- therefore no parental permission is required.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>How do Educational Psychologists become formally involved?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A request for Formal Consultation is agreed in conjunction with the school\/ referring agency, parents\/carers and EP. Following this agreement a Formal Consultation meeting is held to explore issues and agree a joint plan for support\/intervention. For further information on these opportunities <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/as\/aberdeenshireeps\/training\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">please click here<\/span>.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Other agencies<\/h2>\n<p>Any service seeking EPS involvement should have a pre involvement discussion with the area Educational Psychologist, in accordance with Aberdeenshire\u2019s GIRFEC Guidance. Pre-involvement discussions are professional consultations, in which the Educational Psychologist provides support or advice to another professional.
