Paul Anderson

Pupils at the school were very lucky to be able to listen to Paul Anderson playing fiddle at assembly. Paul has been working with Deveron Arts, who arranged the visit into school.

Paul explained the difference between a fiddle and a violin. He then played some traditional scottish tunes. Everyone”s toes were tapping! Next he played some haunting music and asked everyone to close their eyes and try to imagine what the music was about. Some children thought the music was very sad. Paul told us that it was about the lady from Fyvie Castle. He then invited the school to walk around the hall in time to a tune.

Everyone enjoyed listening to the music and learning more about fiddle music.

P2’s and P5’s Assembly

Last week p2’s and p5’s did an assembly about Makaton which is a way of communicating using hand signs. We learned a song and we all had fun singing the song, everyone was joining in. We learned some Makaton to go with the song. Some of the words we learnt to say using makaton included; hello, you, me, friend and play. The song is sung by Mr Tumble. P2 and P5 worked very hard to put their assembly together and learning the Makaton and teaching it to us. They did a very good job.

WELL DONE!

P7 assembly

The Primary sevens have been learning about the rainforests of the world. They did some little plays about the weather, drums , plants, animals and about people destroying the rain forests. At the end they did a vote on the rainforests plays. Then a group of drummers played some songs like the tribes do. In some of the plays there arguments, discussions and lots of great facts.

At the beginning all the class sang “It’s a Wonderful World’ while we saw a slide show of lovely wildlife photos.

The p7 assembly was very entertaining and it gave us a lot to think about.

Chinese New Year and Robbie Burns

Primary 6A  from Gordon  Primary school were wondering if you would be kind enough to include in your article about our Chinese day on Friday 31st January 2014. With a chinese pupil joining our class we decided to base our topic on a trip that starts in Huntly and ends in Fujian, China. We worked in our co-operative groups to pull it off and produce our very own travel guide. We started off the day by doing some Chinese homework talks including some power points and a song composed by a pupil. Then we went on to dressing up in Asian and Scottish clothes.

We have our very own China wall in our class with some pictures we made in homework. Some of us chose to write about how people in China live and work. We also got  to learn a Scottish poem for homework that  we would read to the class. We had to include actions and the best three will be chosen as winners. then one of them will read their winning poem at Assembly.

P5a Assembly

Last week (Wednesday 28th Febuary) Primary 5a presented an assembly about their topic, the Jacobites.

They have been learning about the Jacobites since the start of term 3, they have learnt loads and are very knowledgable about them.

Their Assembly was about a group of children from Gordon Primary who built a time machine and decided to visit the time of the Jacobites. The Jacobites spoke a different language at first (gaelic) but then they found out they spoke English. The children from the past and the children from Gordon Primary had a chat, and compared their lives. The jacobite children worked hard every day collecting water, looking after animals and collecting firewood. They drank water if they were thirsty, and ate shop, bread and cheese. They didn’t eat potatoes because they hadnt been introduced to Scotland yet. They had no electricity, mobile phones. The children learnt how different life was back in the time of the Jacobites.

The whole school and P5 parents enjoyed the assembly and learnt a lot!

The owl who was afraid of the dark

The p2’s yesterday did a wonderful assembly for p2 parents and the whole school.

In school as the class novel p2a have been reading “The Owl who wasAfraid of the Dark”. The book is about an owl who is afraid of the dark but has a series of meetings with  different people. They tell him that dark is exciting, kind, fun, necessary, fascinating, wonderful and beautiful. In assembly the p2s told us that they had been learning how to make a summary of a book. They had also been making posters  about nocturnal (really good) and firework displays made with chalk pastels and glitter (Absolutely Amazing!!!!)

Everybody spoke clearly and loudly. It was a very good performance  – well done!

P3 Assembly

Mrs Jamieson’s Primary 3 class shared what they have been learning in a very interesting assembly attended by staff, pupils and P3 parents.

The children had been watching the Nutcracker ballet.

The children thought about the main characters in the ballet, (Clara, the Nutcracker, the mouse king) and thought about wow words to describe them. They also described the setting of the story.

They wrote their own endings to the story of the Nutcracker. In science they made simple circuits, drew pictures of the Nutcracker and used the circuits to light up the buttons of their Nutcrackers.

They also really enjoyed watching the ballet and listening to the music.

Well done Primary 3; thank you for sharing your project with us!

p7 assembly

Last week in assembly the p7 Mrs McIntosh’s  class did an assembly about World War two. They even made up their own play by making their own script. It was a really good play, there was even a song that they sang. Ellie  made an Anderson shelter; she told us what an Anderson shelter was for, and interesting facts and information about the anderson shelter. Duncan  made some food for his family using the kind of food that were available during WW2, and he said it was lovely.  Chris made a aeroplane and it was very good. Duncan also made all of the backrounds that were on the power point and it was very good. Some of their parents attended the assembly and were very impressed.
