P6 Trip to Haddo House

Both p6 classes had a trip to Haddo House, during their time there they attended a Murder Mystery around the grounds!

The Murder Mystery was 2 miles long and it took 2hrs to complete. They had to walk all around the grounds searching for Clues, some clues were hard to find and some were easy! The clues were objects around the grounds such as logos, information boards and lots of other objects around the grounds!

The classes were split into groups and each group had a teacher with them with the answer sheet!

When they got back a person from each group and went onto the website that the Murder Mystery was organised by and typed in their reference number and wrote in their details and left a comment to the organisation!

Everyone enjoyed their trip to Haddo House and also everyone came back smiley and cheerful!

If you would like go on a Murder Mystery trail like this one then use this website to get one booked:

Sharing Assembly

We enjoyed the sharing assembly today, watching 2 different dances.

First Mrs Innes’s Primary 1 class showed us the dance that they have been learning.  They looked very smart wearing kilts and their dance was excellent.

Then the new Huntly Castle Tour Guides (the present p5’s) showed us the dance that they havebeen learning for their launch, which is taking place at Huntly Castle next week. They danced a Pavanne, and looked very impressive wearing their beautiful costumes.

4c’s Tadpoles and Frogs

4c has lots of tadpoles and baby frogs. And they are swimming fast. The baby frogs are green colour with a hint of brown in their body. We are really lucky to have tadpoles and frog-lets in our class. Some baby frog-lets are back where they belong in the Bin Forest but you can find them anywhere in a damp place. Once when we put two baby frog-lets in a tub and one nearly escaped but luckily our teacher Mrs Sell caught it in the tub, and it was lucky that it didn’t die.

Peregrine Watch Trip

First we went on the bus  to the  peregrine  watch,  then  we played a game. Then we went pond dipping  for 20  minutes.   Next  we  went fishing for shrimp. I saw a frog that had no fear of a human.

Then we went hiking up a hill –  it took ten to thirty minutes  to get up the hill.

Then we all had our  lunch then we  went to the hide to look at wildlife. The peregrine  was  not there  but  when we  all got on the bus I saw a great big bird .

P5 At Culloden

There have been many, many fun and exciting events happening all at the same time. One of them has been the trip to Culloden for Primary 5. The p5 classes have been learning about the Jacobites and the Jacobite rising.

Both primary 5 classes attended and most came back happy and cheerful, others came back a bit unhappily because they did not get to see the museum but they enjoyed the rest of it.

Inside the building there was a little cafeteria, museum, gift shop and the education room and that is were the p5s went.

In the education room, we were all given tags to wear around our necks, They were three different colours and those colours were Red which represented a Government army supporter, Blue that represented a Jacobite supporter and white that represented people that had not made their mind up or  don’t support either of the sides. Four of the cards had names on them such as Francis Townley, Anne Mackintosh, James Mackintosh, Anne McKay and a couple more; the p5 got to dress up as them. There were 4 main countries that fought in the Jacobite’s and government troops and they were France who were Jacobite’s, the highlands and lowlands were also Jacobite’s.  The Scot’s and the English were a mixture and many people would risk their lives to protect their countries and regions. When we were out on the Culloden moor, we saw a little cottage that we thought was a black house at first but it wasn’t. The cottage was where the Jacobite’s camped during their wait for the government troops.

It was a very long journey to Culloden and back and to occupy ourselves we sang  and sang and sang to our hearts content. some people though did not feel well and they were sick ! But everyone had a great time, and learnt a lot on their trip.

Sports day

Tuesday 18Th June 2013  the upper stages all attended down at the field. Parents to come down and watch us too.  Everyone was really good. It was really fun and everyone took part. We are really excited to hear the results. First classes took part in fun races , like  the monkey run,the three legged race, the crab race, football dribbling and the five shirt race. Then every class took part in a flat race. Everyone was pleased that the weather was good enough to hold sports day, epecially the p4s, who had not had a sports day for 2 years!

We are now hoping that the weather is good enough for the Lower Stages to be able to have their sports tomorrow!

Castle Extravaganza!

Last Sunday (16th June) the Castle Tour Guides joined in an event at Huntly Castle that had been organised as a Fathers Day treat. Also at the castle were members of the Sealed Knot, a historical re-enactment group. They were dressed as Jacobites and had a wonderful assortment of old weapons such as muskets, rifles, axes and even 17th century bombs!

We all got quite a shock when the Sealed Knot soldiers fired their muskets during the tour! Luckily the tour Guides soon recovered their composure and carried on with the tour once they had stopped laughing.

The p7s are looking forward to going to Glenshee next week.  They will be staying at the Compass Christian Centre for four nights. They are prepared for their trip, taking walking boots and waterproofs. They will probably be doing some activities like rock climbing, canoeing, orienteering, climbing and other exciting outdoor activities. We are sure they will have a great time!
