Mintlaw Academy, ROV Group Success

ROV MATE is an International competition run by the Marine Advanced Technology Education centre in California, USA. It is an ROV competition designed to give school pupils an opportunity to work on industry standard tasks, designing, building and flying an ROV. The team from Mintlaw Academy have been the winners of the Scottish heat the last two years. This heat is held at Robert Gordon University and is sponsored BP and Subsea UK.   Mintlaw Academy have finished 13th in the world the last two years and continue to develop their knowledge of the Sub sea industry.

Mintlaw Academy, Girls into Energy Skills for Work National 5 course

The Girls into Energy Skills for Work National 5 course. Girls into Energy is run in partnership with the school,  North East of Scotland College and industry sponsor Shell.  The course is designed to give girls an insight into the Energy Industry and how to prepare for the world of work. As part of the sponsorship Shell very kindly give the girls an I pad to help with their studies and also provide them with Personal Protective Equipment for the workshop and industry visits they have throughout the year.

Mintlaw and Kemnay Academies scooping awards in National Event

 

Kemnay Academy’s ROV team came third once again in a hotly contested competition. The scores were very close between the top 3 and no one really knew what the outcome would be until the announcements were made. Mintlaw Academy won and Menzieshill High from Dundee came second.
The project was sponsored by BP and each entry received £300 to cover the costs of the project.
The Kemnay team comprised  S6 students, Peter Mitchell, Gavin Mackenzie and Martin Thomson and S5 student, Liam Miller, won £200 as a prize and certificates.
