It is a fast paced challenging course that includes fun active learning in all three discrete areas of science. All pupils will experience 3rd level outcomes within the context of the eight science Significant Aspects of Learning. Health and wellbeing, numeracy and literacy outcomes are embedded throughout with the assessment of specific outcomes covered during the year. We assess knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas both formatively and summatively, along with the assessment of inquiry and investigative skills through practical investigation. Scientific analytical thinking skills are developed and assessed throughout by practise of problem solving activities. The course is designed to enthuse and engage through practical experience to support the development of scientific enquiry.

The S3 course offers more personalisation and choice, with pupils able to study either 1, 2 or all 3 of the discrete sciences. This creates a more in depth rich learning experience and allows a subject specialist to enhance the context of the learning within their own subject area.

Each S3 discrete science course is taught 2 periods per week throughout the year.

Senior Phase S4-S6

Progression pathways:

S4

S5

S6

N5 Physics

N5 Chemistry

N5 Biology

Higher Physics

Higher Chemistry

Higher Biology

Advanced Higher Physics

Advanced Higher Chemistry

Advanced Higher Biology

N3/4 Physics

N3/4 Chemistry

N3/4 Biology

N3/4 Science

N4/5 Physics

N4/5 Chemistry

N4/5 Biology

Higher Physics

Higher Chemistry

Higher Biology

N5 Laboratory Skills

N5 Environmental Science

Full information on each course can be found in the Senior Phase Prospectus.

Follow @forfarScienceFollow @ForAcadPhysics Staff Principal Teacher Mr D.
