{"id":40,"date":"2015-11-20T14:06:00","date_gmt":"2015-11-20T14:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/an\/burnsideprimaryschool\/?page_id=40"},"modified":"2016-10-18T12:05:00","modified_gmt":"2016-10-18T11:05:00","slug":"parent-council","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/an\/burnsideprimaryschool\/?page_id=40","title":{"rendered":"Parent Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Welcome to the Burnside Parent Council &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>follow us on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BurnsidePrimaryParentCouncil\/?ref=ts&amp;fref=ts\">Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Burnside Parent Council is for parents and carers of children who attend Burnside Primary School in Carnoustie. \u00a0We have been\u00a0in operation since 2007 when the school opened and represent the Parent Forum within the school &#8211; with the main aim of helping the school operate successfully.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the main duties of the Parent Council?<br \/>\n<\/strong> The first duty is to represent the views of the parents at the school. \u00a0The duties of a Parent Council are not laid down in legislation so it is up to each Parent Forum to decide what they want their Parent Council to do. \u00a0This should be detailed in the constitution.<\/p>\n<p>There are many things a Parent Council can get involved in including:<br \/>\nSupporting the work of the school e.g. by advising the school on its policies<br \/>\nBeing involved in the appointment of senior staff<br \/>\nOrganising social and fundraising events<br \/>\nPromoting contact between all parents and the rest of the school community<br \/>\nDiscussing anything that&#8217;s of interest to parents<br \/>\nEnsuring all parents from different backgrounds are listened to and understand what the Parent Council does<\/p>\n<p><strong>What happens to the money raised from these events?<\/strong><br \/>\nThe money goes back into the school. \u00a0In recent years we have provided funding for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an Outdoor Classroom &#8211; a 4 year project costing \u00a37000<\/li>\n<li>golden time play equipment for all classes &#8211; \u00a31000<\/li>\n<li>annual subscriptions to Education City and French First for which the whole school benefits &#8211; \u00a3670<\/li>\n<li>Mud Kitchen and other toys for the nursery &#8211; \u00a3450<\/li>\n<li>Cyber Hopscotch Theatre Production Workshop &#8211; \u00a3405<\/li>\n<li>Play and Toy equipment for the school Nurture Room- \u00a3200<\/li>\n<li>Gifts for P7 leavers each year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Can anyone become a member of the Parent Council?<\/strong><br \/>\nAny parent with a child at the school may become a member of the Parent Council. \u00a0Parents must always be in the majority and the Chair must always be a parent with a child at the school. \u00a0The head teacher has a right and a duty to attend Parent Council meetings but is not automatically a member; they are there as an advisor. \u00a0It is up to the Parent Forum to decide if there should be other members of the Parent Council and this should be detailed in the constitution, for example, co-opted members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to get involved<br \/>\n<\/strong>Joining the Parent Council doesn&#8217;t mean coming along to meetings every week. \u00a0Helping out might be for a specific event such as the popular Christmas Fayre or the school disco, or auditing our accounts once a year.<br \/>\nIt can be as much or as little as you choose.<br \/>\nIf you can spare us some time then please feel free to get in contact or come along to our next meeting. \u00a0If you are unable to attend but would like to share your comments, ideas or just to let us know how we are doing then please let us know on our Facebook page or email us at<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"mailto:burnsideparentcouncil@hotmail.co.uk\">burnsideparentcouncil@hotmail.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"mbl\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the Burnside Parent Council &#8211;\u00a0follow us on\u00a0Facebook.
