On Tuesday 15th May, Digital Scotland came to Birkhill to celebrate the upgrade to faster fibre broadband through the £428 million Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband rollout. Each week the programme, one of the largest broadband infrastructure projects in Europe, reaches more remote and rural areas.
Local people need to sign up for the new, faster services with an internet service provider, as upgrades are not automatic. To help promote the fact that fibre is widely available across Angus the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband team were out in Birkhill and Muirhead this week. They were joined by pupils from Birkhill Primary School and Kirsty Macari (Angus Council’s economic development officer) to celebrate.
On Friday 26th January, Primary 1 dressed up as 100 year olds to celebrate the fact that they had been at school for 100 days!
They played games, made cakes, sang songs and did lots of maths activities relating to the number 100. The Primary 7 pupils came down to help too. What a wonderful way to spend a day!

Here are the finalists and winners of the Burns Poem Competition. Everybody tried as hard as they could but only 6 people from each class were allowed to be finalists. It was a very difficult decision for our Head Teacher, Mrs Hutchinson and one of our Deputy Heads, Mrs MacDiarmid, but they came to the conclusion that the finalists would be Eve Parish, Finley Liddle, Ben Britton, Ava Curr and Rebecca Anderson. The younger classes performed Scottish songs and poems together and were amazing too!

At school we have enhanced the experience of the National Children’s Mental Health Week by doing lots of activities which make us happy. Some of these include; telling jokes, wearing bright clothing, having a compliments jar, doing random acts of kindness, mindfulness and yoga.
Our teachers also took part by having ‘Secret Buddies’ who they had to do random acts of kindness for throughout the week. We also raised £240 for CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) in Dundee.
We thought the the week was really fun! Everyone was much happier and we enjoyed how nice everyone was to each other. Let’s do it again next year!
